Playlist: Walking To Target Like A Mother-Effing Champ

At least once a week for the last four years or so, I’ve thrown on my backpack and hiked a mile and a half to Target, a distance where asking a friend for a ride seems like a waste and a bus is more trouble than it’s worth. It’s not a bad walk, to be honest, especially since at this point, I know exactly what kind of music to listen to: You have to start out strong with something you can really jam to, but eventually it’s best to switch to walking-down-the-street-in-your-own-happy-music-video music. That being said I am super open to suggestions re: your best walking to the store jams, but for now, here is my ever-changing playlist for my Target pilgrimages.

  1. This sounds similar to my “I am going running even though I know that thirty seconds into the run I will remember I hate running and want to die” playlist, which is basically these three songs on a loop:

    1. Dance Apocalyptic – Janelle Monae
    2. I Wanna Get Better – Bleachers
    3. Chandelier – Sia

  2. I hadn’t heard of Stromae before this playlist… Love this track! I feel like I need to find music for a French music playlist, though all I have is this one and “les disques de mon pere” so far.

  3. Ah, I remember when I used to walk everywhere and then i got my license/car

Sigur Rós – Inní Mér Syngur Vitleysingur – This song gives me so much life.

Oh and anything by Crystal Castles.

  4. The other week my van was in the garage (I believe in the US you would say “the shop”) having its brakes checked, so for the first time in an age I walked and as per laziness I hit shuffle.
Tunes that rocked for me were Ultima Luna by Lucio Dalla, obscure 80s Italian pop rock my mum used to play all the time, and Pork and Beans by weezer which helped on the hills. Of course there was the odd Herb Alpert moment which seemed trippy.
It was interesting to find that it’s not all indie/elctro/pop lesbians or 80s hair metal in my library.

    • Ha! I always forget that I love Fleetwood Mac until I hit shuffle and then it’s like all I get – so good :D

  5. the best walking song ever is “Far Away” by Cut Copy. (I say “walking” but it’s more like “skipping and punching the air.”)

(I cut a wide swath on the sidewalk.)

  6. Is there a playlist for a Target shopping experience when you desperately need to focus only on the 3 items on your list and not let your eyes wander to anything else in the store? Because I need that.

  7. I LOVE THIS but sorry, it looks like the sound file for Q.U.E.E.N. is actually more like Q.U…. (in that it’s just the first 30 seconds or so) (either that or it is just such a good song it seemed to go by so quickly) (also fistbump for fellow I’ll-just-fucking-walk-to-it-ers!)

    • Womp womp. Sorry, I should’ve double checked the playlist. Replacing full length songs with a sample is an 8tracks quirk that I don’t quite understand, but it happens every once in a while with select songs, I’ve noticed. I’ll take care of it!
