Playlist: Lullaby Renditions of Rock Songs That Will Soothe Your Very Soul

A few years ago, I somehow ended up with a Rockabye Baby! album on my computer. And before I knew it, I had, um, a few of them, because they’re so fucking good. Like, seriously. This is music you wanna do yoga to, or listen to I guess as you go to bed because that’s the purpose of it really, or hear playing in the background of the road-trip montage in the biopic about your life. (Is that last one just me? Guess we’ll find out soon.)

There’s nothing more adorable, heart-warming, or deeply inspiring as a tried-and-true rock song played by children’s instruments in a soothing manner. I promise.

Most of these songs come from the same “artists,” or ensembles – namely, the ones behind Cradle Rock, Rockabye Baby!, and Jammy Jams. I listed albums and not ensembles below so you could keep them and the songs like them in your heart and on your hard drive forever, and also because it would have just gotten really repetitive otherwise.

  1. This p freaking amazing (I’m obsessed with the Cure, Pixies, and Nirvana ones) although at first I was disappointed that none of them have vox. The more I listen to them though I wonder if that would kill the vibe? Like I can’t really think of a vocalist who has a lullaby voice with a rock’n’roll edge

  2. totally used this as background noise for my kindergarten after school program+it was a smash! and, I mean, I will be using it for my own dreaming purposes so this is a true gift across ages.

  3. heck yes! i got a couple of these albums from the library and they amuse me endlessly when it’s time to put the little ones to bed where i work.
