Lady Gaga Goes Au Natural, Heather Morris Does “Bruised Barbie” Black Eye

GAGA:

Think fast: do you want to be Jo Calderone for Halloween -or- the freshly debuted “Lady Gaga Sans Makeup” version? Gaga is Harper’s Bazaar’s October covergirl and shocks the masses by supposedly appearing au natural. I find it hard to believe there isn’t even a little foundation or natural coverage happening here, but sure, let’s play along.

“There’s this idea that it’s all natural, but everything’s been staged to look natural. It is also an invention. It’s just that my inventions are different. I often get asked about my artifice, but isn’t fashion based on the idea that we can create a fantasy?”

She also elaborates on how she keeps her tight bod:

“I do yoga, I do Bikram and I run, and I eat really healthy. You know, my work sort of feeds me. I keep in shape by working hard.”

BETTE & TINA:

Well, actually just Tina this time around. Laurel Holloman is officially divorcing her husband of nine years. with whom she has two daughters. One you witnessed gestating over Season Two and one was adopted during season six. They have been separated for over a year, as she mentioned in her Autostraddle interview last year.

ROSIE:

We’re all aware that Rosie debuts new talk show on the Oprah Winfrey Network October 11, yes? If not, you ought to season pass that right now. She opens up about her divorce from Kelli in a new O Magazine interview saying it was “humbling and humiliating… In the O’Donnell family, no one had ever been divorced.”

On their differences, she adds:

“She wanted to play tennis at the country club, and I don’t do country clubs. I tried. They made an exception for a gay family, and we joined. It was a big thing: ‘They let in a gay family – whoo!’ So I show up to play with her, and somebody comes out and says, ‘You can’t play unless you have tennis whites.’ “

Hey, did anyone watch her dressing room vlogs from The View era ? Moment of silence for JaHeRo.

HEATHER MORRIS:

In a truly bizarre photoshoot, our very own Brittany S. Pierce poses with a fake black eye for artistic reasons I’m not quite sure of. Naturally the internet freaked out upon viewing these photos, claiming it glamorizes domestic abuse, so photographer Tyler Shields had to defend his creative vision. Hot or not?

“In no way were we promoting domestic violence. We wanted to do a bruised-up Barbie shoot and that’s exactly what we did!”

Sidenote, this is the same man who turned Lindsay Lohan into a vampire. Season 3 premieres in two weeks (!) so get psyched with this behind-the-scenes shoot.

AB FAB:

The BBC announced last week that Absolutely Fabulous will return to television with three brand new specials (Christmas included), airing in the US on BBC America and Logo. AbFab originally ran from 1992 to 1995, but Jennifer Saunders, lead actress and creator, has occasionally revived the series, the most recent season being shown in 2003.

REAL WORLD SAN DIEGO:

After several homo-free seasons, there is finally a cute tomboy lesbian (Sam) cast for the new San Diego season premiering September 28th. Although I am getting older and these kids keep getting younger, it still amazes me how willing I am to give this show a chance each year. What was your fave Real World season? Genesis from Real World Boston was the first cute lesbian I ever saw on TV so this series sort of changed my life.

    • I know, right? He has found a way to be successful at covering up his lack of talent. Which I guess is a talent of some sort.

  1. Actually, there have been lots of homos on The Real World the past few seasons but they’ve mostly been gay men. And last season Dustin was revealed to have had a past in gay porn. However, the last lesbian or bisexual girl they had on the show was Sara, six seasons ago(or 2009 to be accurate), but we really didn’t see her show interest in other girls while in the house. I would count Ayiia, who was the season after her, but the girl kept insisting that she wasn’t a lesbian or attracted to girls even after we saw her have sex with them. The last time there was a lesbian/bisexual who was actually comfortable with being labelled as such was way back in season 11(or 2002). Damn, that has been a long time on the gay lady front.

I know way too much about The Real World and I am not proud of this.

  2. I sort of feel weird about how Sam is introduced in that trailer. The conventionally male name “Sam” comes up on screen, and she’s talking about “the boys going out tonight”. The tone of her voice and what she’s talking about would cause a good chunk of viewers to read her as male. But then when “-antha” flashes up next to the first three letters in her name, it’s as if the producers are saying, “GOTCHA! She’s really a girl! Isn’t that crazy?! ‘Cause she looks and acts like a dude, right?!”

It just seems as though she’s being portrayed as less female than the other girls in the house because of her appearance. Why not just introduce her as “Samantha” in the trailer without making it gimmicky? Or as “Samantha”, with “Sam” in brackets or something? The juxtaposition of the clips and the text on the screen make it look like she wants to be a guy, that straight females need to be careful lest she trick them into thinking that she’s male.

    Maybe it’s me?

    • It’s not just you; I thought that part was lame and gimmicky, too. Oh, look! She wants to be a bro, but she’s NOT. is how it came across to me.

    • That was also my reaction to that. I understand that they wanted to portray her gayness in a quick way that would generate viewers but yeah, the weird name add-on was a bit off.

  3. I think that probably Lady Gaga is wearing some kind of lipstick in that shoot because I’ve seen other pictures of her without makeup and her mouth doesn’t have that much contrast in them. Also probably there’s lots of photoshop going on. Bravo for posing without make up, but black and white forgives a LOT so…

A print from the HeMo photo shoot will be auctioned to raise money to help victims of domestic violence. Starting bid: $100,000. Idk if that was an after thought though, it seems like it was. Like oh god everyone is angry we need to fix this.

  5. Re: Heather Morris pics – I don’t even want to try and comprehend what the point of that photo set was. However, the dress is absolutely splendid and I want it. Total sucker for polka dots.

  6. “To get Lady Gaga’s no-makeup look, try Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation ($29.15), Prep + Prime Highlighter ($23), Brow Gel ($15) and Prep + Prime Lash ($15). All M.A.C.”
    I’m confused…

  7. “In no way were we promoting domestic violence. We wanted to do a bruised-up Barbie shoot and that’s exactly what we did!”

Translation: “I’m a complete idiot and have no idea what bruises are or what causes black-eyes. I’m just copying other photographers that did it because it’s cool.”

    • ya know, it’s possible for a woman to get a black eye from being punched in a non-domestic-violence situation.

      • But it’s more likely that in a situation with a male arm pulling tight the iron power cord tied around her wrists, in what is supposed to be her home, that it’s her partner who’s implicated.

  8. Onestly it looks like the new trend in fashion photography is representing the deepest perversion of the photograher and say “oh it’s ok it’s art and I’m famous so no problem”. Read Tyler Shields, read Terry Richardson. I’m so not a moralist, but someone should put some limit to that. One thing is art, another thing is producing sexist pornography based on your perversion and calling it art because you make a lot of money out of it.

  9. Tyler Shields is a fucking idiot and shitty photographer who has said before that rape can be hot, soooo I’m gonna go with no. Just always ‘no’ to anything he does. Heather Morris is an idiot for doing this, too.

    • Jenna Ushkowitz has done shoots with Tyler Shields before too, so it seems he is friends/acquaintances with some of the Glee cast.

  10. Tyler Shields photography reminds me of some angsty 13 year old with a deviantart account with a whole bunch of Terry Richardson thrown in. He’s terrible. And he comes across as a complete moron in interviews. He annoys me to no end.

  11. That picture of Lindsay Lohan in the bed with a bunch of guys in the background grabbing their junk is the grossest thing I’ve seen all day.

  12. Is Rosie wearing gold Docs? I didn’t know that that’s what my life was missing until I saw that picture. I must find some.

  14. I haven’t watched a full season of RW season the first round in New Orleans, but hmmmmm this could be promising.

  15. Tyler Shields is smart in that he knows he has no discernible talent. Even in terms of shock photography, he is completely lacking. His works are alarmingly passe. So he does what any untalented shock photographer would do – he gets young actors and actresses to work with him by presenting himself as the one who will add a dark edge to them. Anyone with a slight knowledge of photography knows his work is D-grade at best. But he sells an image of being the hot young LA photographer to celebrities who want to show that they have a dark side. His is tired rape and violence against women tropes. To hide from criticism he often shoots a supposed story where the woman wins in the end. The thing is that the photographs he highlights are the ones with women being subjugated. He knows this will get him unwarranted attention. He orchestrated this controversy on purpose because he does not have the talent needed to succeed without using both shock and celebrities.

To be an untalented sham riding the coattails of celebrities is nothing new. He is the Magic Alex* of LA photography.

*a person who has no talent who gets young celebrities to believe he is some sort of genuis in his field due to their ignorance of the field.

    • This may all well be true. I will admit that the pic of Heather drinking from the iron produces a sense of defiance for me and I like it. I looked through most of the pics on his site and some I liked, some I didn’t, some I didn’t get the appeal of and some were repulsive. And I loved a couple. Dianna Agron with the tangerine hair and glitter on her lips? Hellz yeha.

I figure artists are like other people. Very rarely am I going to like ALL of the shit they put out there.

  16. Um, did everyone forget that Stefani Germanotta had BROWN hair? Au natural, my ass.

Also, Tyler Shields does some freaky photographs, that’s for sure. I don’t know why this bruised picture is suddenly gaining a lot of attention, though. It’s hardly the freakiest in his portfolio.

  17. Yeah, Ruthie. I remember thinking I can’t believe they keeep rolling the cameras as she was drinking/drugging herself to seizure status. Don’t judge–it was my first reality tv show, I didn’t know any better.

  18. Didn’t Brooke and Ayiiia both end up only dating women once their Real World appearances were over? In many ways, one could see them struggling on the show with their sexuality. Also heard rumors about several of the other women, ones who dated men while on there, only dating women after the show.

    • I did hear that Coral from season 10 came out as bisexual years after being on the show. She never showed any interest in women during her season. That was one of my favorites because of Coral and her friendship with Mkie aka The Miz. Everybody used to tease him about his obsession with wanting to be a wrestler and then he went on to become WWE champion years later. Not so funny anymore, eh.

  19. Yeah, Brooke didn’t date women until after the show ended, and Ayiiia hooked up with girls on the show without dating them.

I think that Coral is a lesbian.

The Challenges has my favorite lesbian castmate, Ev. She actually dated Brooke for a while.

  20. So fucking psyched for new Ab Fab, ohshit. That show was my CHILDHOOD. Then, I watched it again when I was 16 and wondered why the HELL my mother had let me watch that at age 6. More over my head than an umbrella in the rain.

  21. Because, you know, bruised up Barbie doesn’t in and of itself bring up images of domestic violence. If that is where it began and ended I suppose there could be some (?) credence to the claim that it in no way promotes domestic violence.

But, the woman appears: to have been pushed down on her ironing board, and if that is not clear enough she also is pretty clearly bound with the cord of her iron, and the hand holding her? male.

Its like a disguising plethora of gender roles and a glamorization of domestic violence. I am really and truly tired of this stupid ****ing shit.
    Uhg!
