+ Betty Dodson gives advice to a lesbian whose partner insists on being the source of her orgasm:

“The thing is though, I can’t orgasm during sex. I know that I am capable of having an orgasm because I’ve been masturbating since I was little. Somehow the sex just doesn’t quite do it for me. Don’t get me wrong, the sex is AMAZING, and I even ejaculate (sometimes a little, sometimes a lot) when she stimulates my clitoris. Everything feels right and perfect and I have no inhibitions about climaxing with her. But somehow I just can’t get past this barrier. […] I’m not entirely sure what to do.”

+ The Globe and Mail asks, is masturbation the last female sexual taboo? (We ask, “seriously, is masturbation is a female sexual taboo?”)

+ At the Rumpus, Cris Mazza writes about what it’s like to write about her sexuality in an age of sex memoirs:

“I wrote the book. The book has been written. Now I have to own it. Face it. No, I’ve faced it. Now I have to face them. You. Anyone who reads it. All ten or ten-thousand. It doesn’t matter. If you ever meet me afterwards (or if you knew me before), I picture our meeting to be weird, unnatural. Weirdly unnatural. You won’t know where to look, what to say. You’ll be imagining all sorts of things. I’ll know you know.

Know what? I worked hard to describe and define it in the manuscript, but what will someone walk away ‘knowing’? In part, that Cris Mazza not only has never orgasmed, but isn’t exactly sure what ‘feeling horny’ means. There’s an array of ‘never’s’ and ‘don’t’s’ that may, should or even shouldn’t delineate that pejorative word frigid. I’ve believed that the men in my life — past and present — don’t deserve humiliation-by-association, so I’ve used the damming word but allowed some vagueness to surround it. Instead, I tried to think of a metaphor, one involving a behavior at once intimate and alarming, but they all seemed as though I was trying to vie for the kinds of emotions a rape victim must experience, facing people, afterwards. And this isn’t that. I have exposed ‘it’ voluntarily.”

+ Whether different politics will be a relationship deal breaker depends on whether you see your views as beliefs or opinions:

“Perhaps the only way it works is if couples, like Matalin and Carville, view their beliefs as abstractions — like opinions they came to through some sort of logic and that remain out there. But once people connect politics to their personal, emotional experiences, it’s impossible to see political views as simple opinions.”

+ From “Unwrapping,” in Cheeky Spanking Stories:

“I circle and your eyes, big and brown, ascend until you tip your head back and meet my gaze. Your eyelids are painted soft silver but are wrapped in razor surprise. You bite your lip, and I think you may want to smile. You have to know what this is about.

I reach between your breasts and you hold your breath. I release the top button of your blouse. You exhale just slightly and I open the next button. The tiny strip of shiny fabric at the center of your rib cage comes into view, joins the silver cups of your bra. ‘You know why we’re here, don’t you?’ […]

You bite your lip. There is a hint of a smile, and you lift your brow. You continue what I started and open each button down your stomach, pause briefly to look in my eyes again before you pull the tail of your blouse out from your pants. You unbutton each of your cuffs. Your arms fall limp.

I reach up to your collar and open your blouse, ease it down over your shoulders. Again your eyes tilt ever so slightly to look at me. Don’t give me that look. You have to know what this is about. One close look at the boxes, carefully and precisely stacked, was all it took for me to know. ‘You know what you did.'”

    • that photo made me do a triple-take.. this was my mind: “oooo wouldn’t that be great if those were suspenders… Wait, omg are those suspenders??” cut to me – “OMG TRYING TO HIDE THAT I’M STARING SO HARD AT SOMETHING THAT IS NOT WORK-RELATED. SUSPENDERS. STARING!”

      • It’s like we are sharing one mind.

Also initially confusing – is it the suspenders that make it hot? Or the pose? Or the tattoos? Or the stockings? OR? Then I realised. All. It’s all very good.
