+ Is porn the epicentre of the American sexual imagination? Why not?:

“As we are consumers of pornography, our viewing patterns are undeniably part of our erotic lives, but that doesn’t mean our porn lives are part of our sex lives — at least, not directly.

Instead, pornography trains us to redirect sexual desire as mimetic desire. That is, the sociological theory — and marketers’ dream — that humans learn to want what they see. In porn terms: If you build it, they will come.”

+ Trans performers are still underrepresented in mainstream porn, and still face derogatory language, unwarranted STI stigma, different marketing, archetyping and more. One mainstream porn company shooting a scene with a trans performer is a step, sure, but don’t mistake it for progress:

“While [Chelsea] Poe says it’s great that trans performers are getting more mainstream opportunities, like the Wicked shoot, she questions just how much progress it actually represents.

‘I think trans people becoming filmmakers and directors is the way you’re going to see more trans-positive narratives come out,’ she says. This doesn’t just impact porn performers, it also affects viewers. As she puts it, ‘Trans women who are going on a porn site and finding positive depictions of their sexuality, that stuff really matters.'”

+ Go get tested for STIs:

“HPV can cause genital warts, but is also associated with some cancers, including not just cervical cancer, but cancers of the throat in both men and women. (Thankfully, many high-risk types of HPV are vaccine-preventable.) Untreated STIs can also increase the risk of HIV infection. Heather Corinna, founder of youth sex education site Scarleteen, notes that there’s another reason to get tested—if you’ve got access to health care, you’re looking out for those who don’t. You’re also protecting people with compromised immune systems who could get really sick from that thing you can treat with a quick course of antibiotics.”

  1. Reading about Daddy just reinforced how badly I want there to be a regular Mommi column on AS.

  2. “The most popular time to watch porn is midnight, followed by 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. But after that, it’s 3 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5 p.m.”

shout out to the 3-5pm crowd i see you do you see me

also HUGE SIGH at that daddy article i love when people are like “obviously gay men and straight women are the only ppl this would apply to” HAHAHAHA

  3. I never had a problem finding porn on tumblr, in fact I’ve mistakenly found one of stuff my friend did on tumblr.

  4. Sometimes I feel like I’m out of the loop because I just don’t watch or read porn. Apparently a LOT of people do. Explains why no one ever believes me when I say I don’t.
