LGBT Kids Glitterbomb Gay Prom with Lady Gaga Themed “It Gets Better” Video

Jess’s Team Pick:

A young man named Colton Boettcher from Madison, Wisconsin (along with the help of his local gay community), produced, directed and edited this extraordinary “It Gets Better” anti-bullying musical production choreographed to Lady Gaga‘s “Hair.”

The video’s YouTube description explains:

“In support of the It Gets Better Project, Colton James Boettcher’s artistic vision takes shape in the form of a music video interpretation of Lady Gaga’s song, Hair. Hair is about being yourself, being true to who you are; as the song exemplifies, “you are the spirit of your hair, it’s all the glory you bare”, YOU are your #hair.

As most of us know, growing up isn’t easy. Countless young people are faced with daily tormenting and bullying, causing them to feel isolated and alone. This is an especially harsh reality for LGBT kids and teens, who often hide their sexuality for fear of bullying. In many instances, gay and lesbian adolescents are taunted, sometimes even tortured, simply for being themselves.

Are you being bullied? Please reach out to someone to talk to, YOU are worth something! No one should tell you otherwise. If you need someone to talk to, you can find some contacts below, or just send ME a message! I would love to hear from you.”

  1. Can we hire this guy to revamp Glee? I’m pretty sure this video had more emotional pull than all of season 3… also, continuity.

  2. Loved it, though I was a little worried that one of the dancers on the tables would slip and fall and hurt themselves

  3. I really liked this but I wanted the girls and boys to be wearing the same kind of shorts :) I thought that would have been super queer… :D

  4. so cute wish my high school could have been like this, maybe i would be less confused now… i cried a little not gonna lie…

  5. Awwwww that’s so sweet, I wish I was that smart as a teenager. I am so grateful that there are people in the world like this xxoo

  6. EEK I’m from Madison!!! Actually Colton Boettcher, the guy who made the video, is a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is from a super small town (~1400 people) in northern Wisconsin called Bonduel.

  7. SPEAKING OF GAY PROM. There is a queer prom night for all ages (though aimed towards youth 14-18) in Ottawa on Feb 11. IT’S FREEEE you guys. It’s at 288 Bank Street.

So if you are up for a fun, friendly, musical evening of fabulous, especially if you are underaged and can’t really make it to the bars, YOU SHOULD COME! I will be chaperoning and it will be fun.

I can’t log on because I’m at work, but you can get in touch with me (@Tarzan) if you have any questions.
