Laneia’s Team Pick: This Fireplace DVD and Other Stuff

Fire is neat. When there’s a fire and it’s not engulfing a home / forest / stove, people will just stand or sit around it and stare at it for hours. No one knows why people stare at fires. If you’re sitting with someone in front a fire and they’re not staring at it, you will know that you’re in the company of an alien and you should act accordingly.

I have a fireplace, but starting a fire is time consuming and requires me to figure out how to start a fire. But I want the ambiance! I want the soft glow of the flames! So I bought Fireplace DVD: Real Wood Burning Fire from Amazonia dot com. The best part of this particular fireplace dvd is that there’s no cheesy instrumental holiday music – just fire, so I can play it any time of year.

You should buy this fireplace dvd, then download Thundering Rainstorm and curl up on your sofa with some hot chocolate or whiskey and a plate of lemon cookies and read The IHOP Papers for the f*cking book club and think to yourself, “This is what Laneia said I should do, and I’m glad I’m doing it.”

  1. Here, our Sky+ boxes (UK and Ireland version of Tivo) have a little on demand bit, showcasing recent programs and for Christmas they have added some seasonal specials. One is a crackling log fire, thankfully with no music and the other is an outdoor scene with snow falling.

(I’m not watching either though, Juliette Lewis is presenting a comedy music quiz show, so naturally I’m watching that!)
