Laneia’s Team Pick: Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows

Hello lovers of music! Today you should pre-order the album Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine, because it’s $3.99 for today only and features John Prine songs sung by Deer Tick, Conner Oberst, My Morning Jacket, that guy from Bon Iver, and The Old Crow Medicine Show! The Avett Brothers also do a really good cover of “Spanish Pipedream,” which was playing on Radio Bonnaroo as I drove off the farm in Manchester, and it’s kind of perfect.

I know a lot of you aren’t big John Prine fans, but I bet at least two of you are, and the three of us should plant a garden and eat a lot of peaches together, wouldn’t you say? Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows doesn’t come out until June 22, but you can download My Morning Jacket’s cover of “All The Best” free from

  1. John Prine is absolutely unbelievably incredible. just going to say it.

i just bought this, right now. thank you for sharing because i might have missed it otherwise and that would have been mother fucking tragic.

more people should be fans. but more people should also be fans of Kris Kristofferson (who understands my soul, and the like) but aren’t, and that’s sad. So I am all in on this garden, but can we invite Kristofferson fans to plant bulbs as well?

  2. It’s funny that I didn’t know who John Prine was until I saw Kristen Stewart singing “Angel From Montgomery” in the movie Into The Wild. (Being from Alabama, I had to investigate the song.) I’ve become a fan of his music since then but I have to admit I enjoy covers of his songs a bit more. So this is right up my alley. Thanks for the heads up.
