It seems like…. not everybody has seen “The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo“??? Once upon a time I, too, had not seen Caleb Gallo but then Gaby Dunn was like “we’re watching Caleb Gallo.” So then I did. I was not immediately sold on the first episode, but by the final episode… my whole life had changed. Now I can say “sometimes things that are expensive… are worse,” and everybody who knows what I’m talking about, I know is someone who has seen Caleb Gallo!
I know that this YouTube series, which contains five episodes ranging in length from 10 to 22 minutes, is ostensibly about gay men and this is a website for gay WOMEN and other trans people BUT it’s actually not entirely about gay men! There’s a lesbian couple, and a genderfluid Freckle, who is also a very important cultural figure (she recently appeared in Wine Country) you should be aware of immediately if you aren’t already. One time in the bathroom at one of those fancy gay events I held her hand and told her I loved her. I was very drunk, but it was cool.
If you’ve seen Netflix’s Special, you will recognize Brian Jordan Alvarez (Caleb Gallo) as the sex worker hired by Ryan and you’ll also recognize Punam Patel, who played Ryan’s best friend in Special, because she plays Caleb’s bisexual agent Panana in Caleb Gallo.
What’s weird to me though is that like….. it’s been out since 2016 and doesn’t have one million views on YouTube? What????

This is very relevant to my life right now! I heard Gaby and Allison’s interview with Brian Jordan Alvarez on their JBU podcast the other week, then watched all of Calleb Gao, then re-listened to his episode of Queery, then watched half of Grandma’s Gold (BJA’s post-apocalyptic Christmas scifi rom com) before leaving the house to do something far less entertaining. Hopefully that is a sufficient endorsement for the show!

The show didn’t hold my attention much but Freckle is amazing and the supercut of all her lines makes me laugh all the time.
when ur hanging out in ur apartment u’ve got some candles lit ur feeling good u’ve had 8 glasses of wine then down in the street u hear two beautiful boys skateboarding or doing flips or something so u invite them up and they say where’s the bed and they ask if they can sit on the bed and u tell them sure but the sheets are expensive japanese linen and they tell u they’re not even soft
