Hello Happy Halloween and welcome to this year’s community photo gallery celebrating The Holiday Of Our People! Literally every single year I’m like, “Wow, our readers really blew me away this time around, there is no way they’ll be able to top themselves next year,” AND THEN… you do! The next year rolls around and y’all just top the heck outta yourselves, you really do! [Insert joke about ending the top shortage via creative Halloween costuming here, you’re welcome.] Anyhow, today’s not a day for me to ramble on. Today’s a day to eat mini Milky Way bars you’re supposed to be saving for your trick-or-treaters tonight, tell a friend you love them, and browse our truly impressive Halloween community photo gallery, made up entirely of submissions from our lovely readers.

PS: Because Halloween falls on a Wednesday this year and I know some folks will be dressing up today/tonight and some of y’all may even still have Halloween parties this weekend, I’ll be accepting submissions for this gallery through *midnight on Sunday, November 4.* If you’re very excited about your costume and want it featured here, email me 1-2 photos to vanessa [at] autostraddle [dot] com and include name, age, and costume title for everyone in the photo.     • IKR? So awesome! So creative and well executed.

      Back when I taught art and design, I loved leading class discussions of that painting – it’s a technically brilliant composition and it has the right level of gross out to engage college frosh.

      OK so my dad is an art history teacher and when I was a kid this painting was on the front of a coffee table book we had, and for some reason – the composition? The blood? I always kind of thought of it as a painting of someone giving birth, which it most definitely is NOT. Like I as a young kid I thought ew gross, vaginas! But, reader, there are no vaginas.

      I will love it always. GREAT WORK CASSIDY.

  5. I love these. As I scrolled through I was like, hmm, I’m surprised there’re no genitalia costumes. And then bam! I scrolled down to the vagina pants!

    That Mother boob illusion! WOW. Y’all went out.
    I love the Ms Frizzle/chamaleon couples costume, as the CMBYN boys. Taking sexy costumes and making them cross the line twice is awesome and I loved the sexy tampon. I have So Much Respect for the ones that included full body painting because that takes so much work and patience! The charcoal sketch and the decapitation painting, ughhhh I love art and funny takes on it as costume are bomb. I’m going to stop myself here because I’m throwing up love and hearts at this point, but know that I see and treasure every single costume and that you. are. a. cutie. Yes, you.

    • Thank you so much!! If you happen to be near a TV at 630pm, you should tune into Kare 11’s Breaking the News, because Jana asked me to come on her show!!!!! GAHHHHHH! I’m only kind of sort of freaking out a little here. I had to frantically try and throw my hair up in pincurls at work this morning when I got the email.

    • I just updated the caption to reflect this but it’s from Wild Wild Country, a documentary about a cult in Oregon! I forgot that if you’re not living in Oregon or obsessed with cult documentaries (we’re a fun crowd here at Autostraddle!) you wouldn’t necessarily know what this is…LOL.

      • So I originally tagged Jana in my photos on twitter on Saturday, and then someone else got inspired by my pictures and went as her yesterday for a work party. So then they featured both our photos last night on air, and then this morning asked us to be on the show tonight! I had to frantically pin curl my hair this morning at work, so it would have time to set before going on air.

            Also got off work tonight to find out I won the costume contest at a local diner’s halloween party I went to Monday night! So yeah, pretty much the best halloween EVER. <3

    • Gracias! I almost didn’t get Familia on my chest since I was planning to keep my shirt buttoned up, but luckily my friend convinced me and It made a huge difference. Mi gente always looking after me.

  22. Jeffrey, Ina, AND a chicken!?! ? I love it!! I quickly last minute threw together an Ina costume for a work Halloween costume contest (bc of course yes I have several variations on the oversized denim blouse+dark pants combo) and I WON!!
