International Baccaulaureate Studies of Autosexiness 12 years, 4 months agoWe’ve just started working on topics for our WL1 paper…
-
Which books/plays are you covering? My book selections were so messed up; I’m convinced my English teacher had a fetish for incestuous Christians lol
-
Just for WL? Let’s see… we can write on Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Fiela’s Child (NO LIKE), Midaq Alley. For WL2 we have more choices, but I don’t know of any others but We.
-
Hmm… We did some pretty messed up ones. House of the Spirits, Kiss of the Spider-Woman, King Lear, Heart of Darkness… The first book was probably the most disturbing in content.
-
I read House of the Spirits over the summer for a choice novel, loved it actually. I think we’re reading Heart of Darkness next year, but I’m not quite sure.
Are you in your first year, then? I feel like I’m the only one here that’s not sitting for exams this year..
-
lol No, I graduated 5 years ago, but I have a lot of fond memories from my English HL class. Coincidentally, both IB English teachers were gay.
-
So I am the only one XD
Pretty sure mine is too…

Whoa, two of the same books! Our WL1 potential choices were Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Midaq Alley and The Stranger. I chose the latter two because I liked them the best. If I could go back in time to high school being who I am now, I think I’d choose the former two and do something about the madonna/whore dichotomy and representations of…[Read more]

I really couldn’t get that into Midaq Alley, for whatever reason. While I haven’t read The Stranger, I can see how it’d be interesting to approach the madonna/whore dichotomy in Midaq. The more I hear others talk about their IB teachers, the more lucky I feel. My lit teacher would beat us about the head and shoulders if we didn’t approach gender…[Read more]

International Baccaulaureate Studies of Autosexiness 12 years, 4 months agoOh man, I’m about to graduate from college, but I was in IB in high school. Good times!
While it was a huge pain in the ass, I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with my life, but I started hanging out with the drama club painting scenery for my CAS hours and fell in love with it…and now I’m…[Read more]

That’s awesome that you were able to find what you loved through CAS hours! For me IB was kind of a distraction from what I loved and what I ended up doing with my life, so I have kind of a shitty view of it, but it’s great that it’s so helpful and eye-opening for others! :)
-
I was an IB kid in high school, too. I ended up doing a lot of theatre based work in my CAS/IB classes and now I have a BA in Creative Writing and an MA in Theatre Arts. Glad to see others with a similar experience.

International Baccaulaureate Studies of Autosexiness 12 years, 4 months agoThis group just caused possible PTSD-esque symptoms. Still, I can’t help but love it.
-
Yeah, my IB days were not good on my psyche. My school was ruthless even as far as IB schools go. I’m literally still recovering from it and I’m a junior in college.
-
I left IB and realized the real world did not give a fuck about how well you could over-analyze an obscure piece of world literature or how well you did on your math exam. #wakeupcall
-
-
Actually, I’ve never done less. As long as we turn in internal+external assessment and show up to exams, they don’t care what the fuck we do. I just found my exam plan tucked inside the latest issue of vogue. Probably not the wisest way to spend these two years, but I’ve never had more fun.
-
Have fun. It’s much, much better than stressing out as much as I did. #jealous
-
-
Oh wow, I can’t believe IB could be slacked through lol Jealous as well.
@Dani = But…but…bragging rights! That inflated sense of self-worth because you accomplished stupidly hard work alongside your party-freedom-loving high school classmates!! Don’t those mean anything!?
-
Oh, right. Self-worth & bragging rights. Duh. What was I thinking? :)

International Baccaulaureate Studies of Autosexiness 12 years, 4 months agoSo who all’s currently involved with IB?
-
…I am.
Math exams tomorrow. yay…
Nice username by the way!-
why thank you! My class’ tees have IB zombies on them. The front is a regular zombie. the back is an IB zombie- they think of why they eat brains. And twe it changes them.
Good luck with your exams!
Mine are next year-
Ha! You guys are very creative, I’d like to see those shirts!
Btw, I’m taking Math Studies. Best decision I’ve made so far in my short life.-
Oh, you’re much smarter than I… I’m taking HL Math.
-
Yeah, I started out in Math SL junior year, but my grades were meh because I didn’t really give a fuck. I’m so glad that I didn’t listen to my bruised ego and I followed my teacher’s recommendation to switch to Math Studies. So much easier, so much more time to focus on music and the other things I liked/really needed for college!

very much so, but in two weeks, I’m done. DONE.
