Emily’s Team Pick: What Do You Want to do Before You Die?

What Do You Want to do Before You Die is an incredible project by two people who ask people what they want to do before they die and take a polaroid of them as they’re saying it. Then, the person writes it on the picture and they post it on their website. I suggest you read the about page because it explains it better than I do!

Emily Choo started as an intern with Autostraddle when she was 18 years old. She's now 10 years older and lives in Toronto with her partner and cat. The defining moment of her career was when Riese said this about her: " I think Emily Choo is a very bright, 'poetically inclined' girl who pays attention to everything and knows almost everything (the point of stuff, how to read, how beautiful things feel, how scary things feel, etc.) but doesn't believe/accept/realize yet that she knows almost everything." She still doesn't believe she knows anything, so, thank you, Riese, for that.

Emily has written 100 articles for us.

  1. That’s a really cool project! So glad you posted this Emily, thank you.

The idea that the ability to even answer that question is to some extent a matter of privilege, that only with some level of security can you think beyond the next day and dream of the future really makes you stop and feel ridiculously lucky.

    • i know right? it fascinates me that almost all of the people from india’s answers were “i want to eat” and “i want to study”. also, i loved the one where he says “i want you to take my photo”. i feel like he’s free.

  2. That is a really fascinating project. It was interesting to see the wide range of things that people want to do before they die.

    Thank you for sharing this
