Emily’s Team Pick: Be Crowned ‘Queer of the Year’

Do you want to be crowned ‘Queer of the Year’? Montreal is looking for you! Enter the Queer of the Year contest and you have a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to Montreal during Pride Week (August 9-16) and also to be named ‘Queer of the Year’ which sounds really exciting and all-encompassing. I live in Montreal so you could win a trip to see me, that’s cool, right?

Anyways, this is how you win: enter a one minute video and submit an application explaining why you would be the perfect contestant. People will be judged on personality, community involvement, sex appeal, healthy lifestyle, and talent (but talent at what? scissoring, maybe?). If you’re in the top 5 you get to come to Montreal and compete in challenges and activities! Sounds hot. Literally, it’s really hot here. The contest ends July 15 so start making your videos! Montreal is really sweet, so you want to enter just to get a chance to come here (for free!). Just saying.

More information on how to enter at the contest website.

Emily Choo started as an intern with Autostraddle when she was 18 years old. She's now 10 years older and lives in Toronto with her partner and cat. The defining moment of her career was when Riese said this about her: " I think Emily Choo is a very bright, 'poetically inclined' girl who pays attention to everything and knows almost everything (the point of stuff, how to read, how beautiful things feel, how scary things feel, etc.) but doesn't believe/accept/realize yet that she knows almost everything." She still doesn't believe she knows anything, so, thank you, Riese, for that.
