Ellen Page and Samira Wiley On the Out100 Covers, OMG

This morning, OUT magazine unveiled four covers for its 20th annual “OUT100” double-issue. The yearly portfolio includes artists, athletes and activists and this year’s picks did not disappoint with Samira Wiley and Ellen Page featured on the covers.

All of the selections were tied to “pivotal moments in LGBT history,” and the entire package was themed, “On the Shoulders of Giants.” Page was named “Entertainer of the Year” and linked to the first on-screen female kiss in the 1930 Marlene Dietrich film, “Morocco.” Wiley, this year’s “Ingenue of the Year,” memorializes Josephine Baker‘s appearance in 1934’s “Zouzou,” the first time a black woman starred in a major motion picture. The photos they shot for this package are absolutely stunning, and the ladies don’t disappoint in their cover shots:

  1. I’m actually pretty impressed with the list this year, which is a first for me. They did a good job with their picks.

    • Agreed! I felt like it was still more heavily male than I wanted, but overall they did a good job with diversity of experience and everything else. I recognized many names that were not just of megafamous people, which is always a good sign with lists like these.

  2. Y’all I just read that Ellen Page and Julianne Moore are costarring in a film about a lesbian couple (based on the true story of Laurel Hester and Stacie Andree.

This will be the day that I die.

    • Yep. They just finished filming. I don’t know when it’s getting released. I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets lots of awards come awards season though.

  3. Ellen Page, you look fantastic and Imma let you finish, but Samira Wiley has the best magazine cover of all time.

    ALL TIME.

  4. Ohmygosh Ellen Page marry me! Don’t worry you’re the tall one in our relationship! LOL ^_^ awesome covers! Or as I like to say it “#aaasssaaam!” Samira’s photo is so damn hot! Two thumbs up on the list!

  5. I AM NOT OKAY. Ellen Page (in Hard Candy) was the teenage crush I didn’t realise was a crush until I grew up. SAMIRA WILEY. I just want to frame her picture. The fact this is two of my faves looking smoking hot is making me really happy.

  6. these are definitely nicely designed but i think the fact that samira wiley is the only naked one needs to be looked at a little further

    • Her shot is supposed to recall Josephine Baker’s groundbreaking performance in Zouzou! Baker was known for a lot of things, but in her early performances she was a vaudeville chorus girl, and she was particularly famous for a dance she did wearing only some pearls and a skirt made of fake bananas.
