Crystal’s Team Pick: Lesboalas

Today’s team pick is quite sophisticated, a high-brow story about two koalas named Sprite and Saffron.

See, Andy Roddick was recently doing a press conference in Australia for the Australian Open. The conference was held at a koala sanctuary, and the camera happened to catch two koalas getting intimate in the background. (story/video)

The punchline here is that BOTH KOALAS ARE FEMALE.

Apparently, female koalas often have sex with their female friends as a way of notifying the male koalas that they’re ready to procreate. At least that’s what the researchers say. But I think we all know what’s really going on here.

  1. Hey! That’s like 20 mins from where I live. The last time I went to Lone Pine there were no amourous koalas, just sleepy farty ones.

  3. Not gonna lie, first thing I thought when I read “Apparently, female koalas often have sex with their female friends as a way of notifying the male koalas that they’re ready to procreate” I thought of drunk straight girls making out with each other…

  4. “If they are all in season we have seen three or four of them together just going for it.”

    KOALAS>EVERYTHING

  5. Well shave my head and call me Sinead, koalas are far more interesting than I thought, so I did a little research.

First scientists brand all koalas as drunks- our fluffy friends apparently known for getting severely ‘snozzled’ on eucalyptus leaves. Then they tell us that Chlamydia is rampant amongst the koala population and now…? Now they’re “sexually fluid” marsupials- I’m sorry but when did the humble koala turn into Lindsay Lohan?
Just joking- I’m sure Lindsay doesn’t have…access to eucalyptus leaves.

Researchers also note that not only are our furry friends from Down Under fans of “the down under furry friend” but also that sometimes koala “sex sessions” involved up to five other koalas at a time, where “more than one pair of females shared the same pole, and multiple females mounted each other simultaneously.” I’m a, lets say, “fairly liberal” *cough* slutty *cough* person when it comes to sex, but that seems a little excessive even to me.
    Sheesh!
