Remember in 2017 when we spent the whole year making enormous themed community galleries for a series called Queer IRL? Here we were in our kitchens! In our bedrooms! On a Friday night! It was right after the election and I think we all just really needed to see each other, and be witnessed, and be reminded that we matter and aren’t alone. Also, collective art projects are FUN.
One of the perks of our spring fundraiser, which is still ongoing!, was to bring back the Queer IRL gallery for one more round, and so here we are! We set the goal for unlocking this perk at $25,000, and y’all delivered in less than three days, because frankly you are not to be trifled with when it comes to blowing past fundraising goals. It’s incredible to work for such an involved, dedicated community, and to say we’re glad for the opportunity would be a terrible understatement. Thank you from the bottommost bottom of all the bottoms!
Please note that submission to this gallery is open for everyone, whether you gave to the fundraiser or are an A+ member or not. Even if you just found this place this morning, this is your gallery, too! We want to see EVERYONE. We’re here for all of you.
The theme for this gallery is Queer Right Here, and it’s exactly what it sounds like: most of us are right where we’re gonna be for a good long while. Members of our community who are still leaving their homes for work (💛💛💛 bless you, truly 💛💛💛) must still return to the same space day after day, without much deviation or a real end in sight. Put quite simply, shit is utterly wild right now. I hope this group art project helps us feel a little less trapped and afraid. We’re experiencing this isolation and fear and time in different ways, with different access to resources, different needs, and different degrees of separation from the virus and its immediate physical and psychological impact, but we’re still together. We’ll need to show up for each other and for ourselves in new ways, using our collective knowledge and imagination to come up with solutions to problems we haven’t had the opportunity to try to resolve on this scale before. I’m honestly so grateful that it’s you — each of you — here now. I trust us to help each other and to do the things we didn’t know we could do, the things we knew we could do if we ever had the chance, and the things that seem impossible. I’m so fucking glad it’s you.
Now let’s make a photo gallery!

1. What is “right here”?
Wherever you find yourself in this moment. Or this moment. Or this one. Working? Making dinner? Weeding a garden? PLAYING ANIMAL CROSSING AND/OR SIMS? Staring at the blank page before you, reaching for something in the distance (so close you can almost taste it)?? Those moments are all right here.
2. What is a queer person?
3. Do you want us to be in the photo?
I do, yes! You gotta be in the photo because that is indeed the point!
4. What about my pets? Should they be in the photo?
Um yah if they wanna be!
5. Can a photo include more than one person?
Yes! Include whomstsoever you’d like! It’s your ‘right here’ and I want to see it all.
6. How sexy can we get here? Also tell me about your nudity policy.
We shan’t show nipples, genitalia, or simulated or actual sex. Sex toys or nude art are totally permitted.
Deadline: April 21, 2020
