hi all! I am a beginner wanting to start training for a marathon, to eventually move into tri-athalons… any advice for someone just starting out??
-
Beginner marathoner or begginer runner?
-
beginner marathoner…. well, maybe both? I used to run a lot but it’s been awhile, so maybe some refreshers wouldn’t hurt either! :)
I’ll take any advice anyone’s willing to offer, really! :)-
Here’s what I didn’t take seriously enough:
1) shoes..Find a store dedicated to runners and get a gait analysis. More expensive doesn’t mean best for you. You want a place that has a treadmill you can try out the shoes. When you settle on a pair, buy 2 and rotate them on your runs.
2) Nutrition..Don’t blow this one off..Eat right, not light.

Seconding the other advice you’ve gotten.
Also, finding a buddy to train with can be very helpful and make the long training runs more fun.

I have no information, except that I’m reaaally jealous, cause Georgia looks amazing!
-
I love Antwerp it’s so beautiful and free. You can be gay there, they’re totally cool with it. There are a few lesbian parties on there.
This is one:

Hey! Just got started running 8 weeks ago. Did a 5km fun run early this month, and last week did an 11km Volcanic run challenge (was hell!!) but training for my first half marathon in November. I’m also a qualified Zumba instructor. It’s strange, I was so anti sports when I was in school, now I love them. So any runners out there, please let me…[Read more]

Hi there! I don’t really know that I can give you any serious advice (my brain sort of stutter-stopped over “11km”- nicely done!) but I’ve been getting back into running lately and have fallen madly in love with Fitocracy. Essentially it’s meant to give you that sort of instant gratification kick post-work out by awarding points/ achievements/…[Read more]

ooh Volcanic run challenge does sound like hell! but also like something I want to do?
I just ran my first half marathon in March and it was a great time! I grew up playing softball but never had any endurance and when I started running about 18mo ago it was rough. Now I LOVE it.
A few things I learned:
1) keep up your training! I didn’t really…[Read more]

TravelStraddle 11 years, 6 months agoHi y’all,
I’m planning on travelling to South-East Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Lao) and India in the next few months.. Most likely travelling by myself for most of the time. Any tips r.e. safety, meeting awesome people, good places to go etc? I’m fairly open to anything! Excited in a trepidious kind of way!
-
hey, I travelled to south-east asia and I went with a group at first. it was called intrepid travel and it was great b/c it was cheap and you met other budget travelers. i liked it b/c they set up the hostels for us to stay at and the guides showed us what to do. if you’re in thailand don’t miss the kanchanaburi waterfalls. it’s a little of the…[Read more]

best tips for meeting people – stay in hostels – hostelbookers.com lets you know whether there are female dorm rooms, tends to be mostly other solo travelling ladies in these rooms so you already have something in common. Also booking in to ‘day tours’ like waterfall hikes, island hopping/snorkeling boats etc, no better way to meet people than to…[Read more]

TravelStraddle 11 years, 7 months agoI travel for work, for the next six months I am in North Jersey, anything fun going on?
-
Central Jersey here. Some minor stuff up there. Hoboken, No Jokin. Jersey City Beer Garden. It can be fun across the water catching the skyline but if you’re here for 6 months I say your best bet is to take advantage of the City as much as possible since you’re right there. Everything is at your fingertips w/ just a PATH ride in! Where in North…[Read more]
