Hi, I’m stationed at the South Pole until November. It is pretty damn cold here, so that means I’m stuck doing a lot of stuff inside, even if I’d rather be outside. Anybody got any suggestions to keep me from going crazy on the treadmill/spinner/erg machine?

This is probs a bit crazy, but I used to google map a route through somewhere I like or have visited and then note what I passed at what distance. Then on the treadmill I would watch my distance and think about where I’d be if I were on my little fantasy walk.

I use three simple distraction techniques all at the same time. 1) Listen to music, of course. 2) Count right foot strikes to 100. I have found that counting also helps with pacing when I’m back to running outside. 3) If the machine is in front of a mirror, I concentrate on a point in the mirror like I’m running to it.
