I just finished “Room” by (lesbian! Canadian!) Emma Donoghue, 321 pages. I have so many feelings about this book I don’t even know where to begin. It’s exquisitely written, terrifying, and poignant, and I still wish a little bit that I hadn’t read it. Maybe it was just a little more raw truth than I’m ready to handle these days, maybe the horrors of the premise (a woman kidnapped and raped repeatedly over seven years and the child that results from her abuse) got to me, maybe I’m tired of reading things that make me cry on public transit. But you should totally read it.
