Animestraddle 10 years agoWhat’s everyone’s favorite manga or anime series? I love the Twelve Kingdoms, it’s a feminist fantasy set in a magical world based on Han Dynasty china. It takes the “girl gets transported to another world” plot I’ve seen a thousand times and turns into a journey of personal growth and self discovery. It’ s a great hidden gem of a series.

Probably Revolutionary Girl Utena, closely followed by Serial Experiments Lain. I am honestly obsessed with both of those. My favorite anime is a pretty cliché one – Fullmetal Alchemist (the first anime, not Brotherhood) – but Revolutionary Girl Utena and Princess Tutu are a close second and third. I’ve always wanted to check out Twelve Kingdoms as soon as I first heard of it; it sounds fantastic.

Favorite Manga as of right now is Shingeki no Kyojin (the anime is in my top 5 as well), and my all time favorite anime is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (I have yet to read the manga but it is on my to-do list!). wow, everyone has such great taste! I’m been meaning to watch Utena but the sheer amount of symbolism is a bit daunting.

I’m not a huge fan of the Brotherhood anime myself, but I do highly recommend reading the manga, especially if you like the story’s female characters. Some of their best moments were cut out of Brotherhood, especially Mei Chang’s.
