I say things when I KNOW I shouldn’t, but my optimism makes me think it might turn out okay.
In the hairdresser’s, in my conservative, redneck shithole of a town:
Catherine (hairdresser): Oh, this short style really suits you.
Me: Yeah, I’m glad I finally got the courage up to chop it all off, you know. It’s a big thing.
C: It’s very chic!
Old…[Read more] -

I just want to talk to the characters in books. We are already friends. Anyone else share this feeling?
-
hehe I felt that way about Anne of Green Gables…but I didn’t know I was gay then…
-
I don’t usually think they’d ‘get me’ or whatever but I feel that way about a lot of characters, actually. Some of them come and live in my head so I’m not too lonely. I don’t think that’s too weird?
-
If I could I’d live in George r. R. Martin’s universe, or Anne McCaffrey’s Pern. I just know I’d get along so well with everyone, LOL
-
I’ve always wanted to live in the Shire and smoke pipeweed with Frodo.
-
Sometimes I find myself talking to them in my head, then I realize I’m talking out loud and people are looking at me funny

My biggest problem with being shy is that I just CANNOT engage in idle conversations with people when I first meet them. I either get completely tongue-tied or I talk about obscure movie references or weird food histories. Maybe I will practice being more normal here: What do you do for a living? Where do/did you go to school? Have you seen any…[Read more]

it is easier online. i’m a librarian & i too, love obscure movie references. grew up with The Princess Bride, Monty Python & the Holy Grail, and several other oh-so-quotable movies as favorites. i love the color red. how about you, saltybox? (& all you lurkers). :)
-
It is easier online, although I do enjoy the confused look I get if I say “Have fun storming the castle” as someone leaves.
-
that is fun.

small talk is baffling, I can never figure out what to say and then it all just becomes awkward silences.
-
Yeah, me too. It’s worse when I’m at work though – why oh why do I have to have customers that need entertaining? My favourite small talk is the weather. I just make it up, of course, but that’s the fun bit hehe
-
and then the silences stretch on and on and the longer they go the harder it is to break them…yeah that sucks
-
-
I always find people like that intimidating. I love talking about the weather, but I always care too much about it. Like, I want to talk about the social and political aspects of it, and how people perceive it to shape national character, and all this other bullcrap nobody wants in their small talk.
-
I know, I always forget good things to ask until after the conversation is over.

ok. i’ll start. one time i was trying to date this girl but she had a boyfriend so i made her a mix that included “how could you want him (when you know you could have me)” by the spin doctors and it worked, she broke up with him and we started going out, and then i found out that her ex-boyfriend was a transgirl who was only juuuust starting to…[Read more]

I hope/assume your ears are still intact? Also I want to start using “folicular patrons” in daily language. Haha :P
I’ve still got the ears. I’m glad with the way it turned out; now, when I get my ridiculous amount of piercings, they’ll be visible and not hidden under my previously biebery shag. Which made for awkward times in my small town as well.
“You look like Justin Bieber.”
“FUCK YEAH!!”
“What the hell?”
this is brilliant.
this is a fucking amazing compliment. YOU are brilliant, my good lady.
i’ve never been complimented so thoroughly on a compliment. astounded right now.
I spent an hour talking to my parents and my hairdresser explaining that there are places where getting hair cut like mine isn’t weird or unusual. without saying “lesbians”, in an effort to avoid the awkward.
DIDN’T WORK
if you have a short gay haircut i really recommend cutting it yourself! it’s actually super easy!
yeah, that was how the discussion ended. do you have any tips on that subject, btw? they’d be super helpful!
i keep my hair pretty short so it’s super duper easy for me. i use a set of clippers with the longest guide thingy on, the 3/4″ one, and just buzz the back and sides with that. i keep the top a little longer and parted on the left. to do that, i use the same guide thingy on the clippers. i stand my hair up (i cut it dry but my hair is super thick…[Read more]
I’ve always really wanted to cut my hair myself after I heard that Keith Richards did it. The guy is my idol. And it seems like what the cool kids do. I’m just terrified of messing up.
