Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoColumbine by Dave Cullen, 413 pg. (@internrachel, @julia1)
I just finished it this morning, and yeah, KIND OF A DOWNER. I may just top off with “We Need to Talk About Kevin” for the feeling of the most feelings you can feel at once, aka despair. But it seriously an awesome book, so well-researched, and it will probably make you cry. I learned lots…[Read more]-
oooh, I’ve been wanting to read that book! Glad to hear you enjoyed it.

i have read this. it’s hard but if anyone works with teens or has a teenager in their lives (or IS a teenager), you need to read it.
i saw it happen on live TV. i needed to know more, to try and find out “why.” this helped.

Like I mean, Cullen was definitely a little too free in assigning feelings that the killers may not have had (especially during the reconstruction of the shooting), but it’s clear from what they left behind that Klebold and Harris were very, very mentally ill. I think the most important part of the book was its portrayal of the media as an active…[Read more]

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoI just finished Fall on your Knees by Ann-Marie McDonald. I have wanted to read it forever but was intimidated by its size (600ish pages). However, it was so great that I read it in three days (I’m currently unemployed). It’s not what I would call a feel-good book but I loved reading every page. There are quite a lot of potential triggers…[Read more]

I read this a couple months ago, and I found that it was a very quick read, despite the length. Took me a few days to get into it, and get past the firsthundred pages, but stayed up late and read the last 300 pages in more or less one sitting. One I got to the part set in NYC, especially, I couldn’t put it down.

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoI am reading “Always My Child” prior to making my mom read it, so she’ll stop saying stuff that is really offensive and upsetting. I am just at the beginning, and mostly I am feeling upset about all the offensive and upsetting stuff she’s said in the past, and that I didn’t get that angry about at the time because I didn’t know I as allowed to get…[Read more]
