that’s exactly what i was thinking. plus, i feel that if i buy a record that doesn’t come with a download code, i can feel a little less guilty about pirating the digital copies of the tunes. i already paid way more for the record than i would have for the iTunes album or the CD anyway!
The best thing you can do is get to be friends with your local independent record shop owner/employees because sometimes they will hook you up/hold things you really want/generally just be super-awesome friends. I second the thrift shop suggestion. Investing in newly released vinyl albums becomes tres expensive, be selective. Check out yard sales, thrift shops, markets and your friends-parents basements (the best source bc it’s normally free) – you’ll find some awesome classics (assuming you’re into that). Record stores tend to be overpriced.
