The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoI’m finally reading “Rubyfruit Jungle” and it’s great. There are so many lines and passages I can relate to. I’ve been underlining like crazy, a habit I picked up in college and just can’t shake!

I’m in TC, and it’s boooooring. I’m moving to Grand Rapids next spring, maybe that’ll be somewhat more exciting.
-
Holla, TC! But odds are we’ve dated the same person or have some other similar awkward connectedness. :/
-
I doubt it, I’m bi and have only dated 2 guys since I moved here 8 years ago. Apparently I don’t know where to pick up chicks. :V
-
I’m sorry, I sometimes forget that tone does not translate well on the internetz. I meant it mostly fecetiously because TC is so small and boring, etc, etc. And I don’t know where to pick up chicks either, I think all of the queer ladies up here are paired up and spending their nights at home watching Grey’s Anatomy.
-
Haha it’s cool, I figured you meant that as well. :)

Grand Rapids is probably slightly more exciting than TC, but more conservative too :(
-
Everyone keeps saying that, but TC only *looks* liberal from the outside. I worked at a food co-op that had some of the most sexist, racist and homophobic employees I’ve ever met (and I worked at a restaurant for 5 years before that, so that says something :p). I also volunteered w the Dems last election cycle and they lost to Republican…[Read more]

I concur, TC may be liberal in comparison to the terrifying Michigan Militia Nascar republicans that populate the surrounding 200 miles but that doesn’t make it a good place to be.

I live in TC!

Yay! Did you see all the hot air balloons by the Bay today? Pretty rad B)
-
Yes I did see them. Some of them flew right over my work. And I’m going downtown to watch the launch and return glow tonight. I hope to ride an air balloon one of these days.

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoi’ve been on a teen fiction/dystopian kick lately. just finished Maria V. Snyder’s second sci-fi book, “Outside In” (first book is titled “Inside Out”), action/adventure/social commentary; recently read “Divergent” by Veronica Roth – strong female protagonist, divided humanity, dystopian Chicago; Carrie Ryan’s third zombie book “The Dark and…[Read more]

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoI have Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk on my computer desk at the moment. I’m still finding it depressing though that I have no lesbian novels to read.

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoJust finished the Street Philosopher by Matthew Plampin. It’s a historical novel about the Crimean War (between the British, French, Turks and Russians in the 1850s) and it’s absolutely brilliant. It also has a queer element to it, one of the characters is gay-or a ‘sodomite’ as they were called. Gives a vivid description of the persecution faced…[Read more]
