I just got accepted for an internship at a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center! :D Finally moving my life in the right direction.
Also, I went on a long bike ride yesterday and stopped at a marsh. I saw some painted turtles and basking snakes.

Political Straddlers 12 years, 4 months agoOkay, I know I said I didn’t want to talk about the election, but this is actually kind of interesting: http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2011-06-14/gop-debate-shows-partys-shallowness-on-domestic-foreign-policy/?cid=hp:mainpromo2
I mean, I know it’s obviously because the Republicans are just saying “no” to whatever Obama says “yes”…[Read more]

Sooo . . . I’m curious, what are your favorite National Parks? I can count on one hand those I’ve visited, but I’d really like to see more. I don’t know that I could chose between Death Valley and Olympic. Both are fantastic in such different ways.
I’m really fortunate to live near 3 — Olympic, Rainier, and North Cascades. I hope to visit…[Read more]-
Yosemite’s the one I’m most familiar with. I like it best in early spring, when the winter crowd’s gone, the summer crowd’s still weeks away, and the dogwoods and wildflowers are just blooming. Gorgeous. I also love the expanses of glacier-polished granite, even though it’s roughly the only time I’m ever afraid of heights. It’s beautiful stuff,…[Read more]

That sounds really beautiful. I’m accustomed to seeing smoothly polished rock in river beds, but nothing on the the type of scale you write about!
-
BIG Yosemite love. I grew up visiting the park and lived there for almost a year after college. It’s gorgeous and one of the best places I’ve ever lived. Nothing quite like waking up in a tent under Half Dome every day

Yosemite is phenomenal. I recently (last summer) visited a bunch of parks in Utah (I was part of a team of excavators at a dinosaur quarry in Hanksville) and fell in love. Dead Horse Point State Park is GORGEOUS. Here is a photo I took while there:[http://www.flickr.com/photos/meganluczak/4696585929/in/photostream]. Goblin Valley is neat, as well…[Read more]

Wow, talk about a majestic view! That’s some photo! State parks in Utah must really be a cut above! O to be there right now . . .

Political Straddlers 12 years, 4 months agoAnyone want to talk about something else besides the US presidential election? Who here thinks John Boehner looks like a giant pumpkin? Okay, maybe not that, I’m just desperate to talk about something else, the idea of any of those people defeating Barack is depressing me. Someone suggest a topic?

Iceland. Seriously. If it wasn’t far too cold I would want to move there, politically speaking it sounds like heaven on earth. The Prime Minister of Iceland, Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, a happily gay married woman and proud feminist recently said “The Nordic countries are leading the way on women’s equality, recognizing women as equal citizens ra…[Read more]

For me, it’s not the cold (I can deal with cold, it’s really hot summers – like the ones we have here in Baltimore – that I can’t fucking stand) but it’s the lack of large cities and the geographic isolation. I’m a city mouse, I need to be near things! But other than that, Iceland sounds like paradise.
-
I’m from the tropics. It hit 12’C last week and we all froze. At least hot summers mean lots of time on the water and at the beach.
Here politics are crazy, the “Liberal” party is socially conservative and the leader a misogynistic Catholic. The Labor party (spelt the American way for kicks) is holding onto its government with the aid of the…[Read more]

Yeah, I know Baltimore is not really that hot by a lot of people’s standards, but I’m from Detroit – I’m used to summers where, while super-humid, it rarely goes above 100 F. My first summer here was last year, and there were weeks where it never went below 90. And my parents’ house (thank god I have my own apartment now) didn’t have central…[Read more]

I am focused on the 2011 gubernatorial races! Exciting times! I am biased because I am currently working on one of them. Which? I will never tell! I do try to keep up with what Congress is doing and, you know, actual governing, but I mostly just like electoral politics. I think the entrenched Dems vs. Repubs mentality is everything that’s wrong…[Read more]

I’m a Democrat though personally I feel like I am too liberal for them and wished there was a viable party that better matched my views. I much prefer multi-party to two-party systems. Regardless, I get what you mean about how the system is fun in a kind of crazy, dramatic way. Electoral politics has a very high-school-drama-ish feel sometimes.
-
Yeah, I am definitely more liberal than Democrats. Especially in any of the damn states with 2011 governor’s races! That’s part of why the system is so flawed — it’s better to vote in lockstep with something you only marginally agree with in order to block the thing you definitely don’t agree with. There’s no point in even trying to get what you…[Read more]

Yeah I currently live in Maryland and I like Governor O’Malley, but I’m from Michigan originally and I’m so angry at the doucheface that they elected this year. He is a teacher-hater and the only reason he doesn’t get more attention is because Wisconsin is soaking up all the attention in that region as far as crazy teacher-hating governors go.…[Read more]

GAH…well, I *was* going to watch it from my dvr but it didn’t even record…at least they’re replaying it.

I don’t have a TV and I was going to stream it online and I forgot. Right now there’s too many damn people anyway. I read all the articles about it. Ron Paul picks Blackberry over iPhone. Me? I say Droid.

Political Straddlers 12 years, 4 months agoWEINERWEINERWEINER. Okay, I’m done.
-
Lol. Anyway, anyone else who thinks he shouldn’t resign?
-
They need to have clear and consistent rules of proper behavior for members of Congress. Until then, I think the political powerplays are annoying. As long as they disgusting fuckface David Vitter is in the Senate, Weiner looks like a cub scout trying to get all his badges.
-
Personally, I don’t think what goes on in politicians’ private lives is anyone’s business unless it a) is illegal, b) is using taxpayers’ money, or c) is hypocritical in some way. So it’s one thing when Spitzer who was Mr. Tough on Prostitution was found with a call girl, but I don’t feel like Weiner has ever made himself into the arbiter of…[Read more]
