So it’s past my bedtime and all that jazz, but I wanted to share this spread I put together today. I have the full write up on my tumblr HERE, and I did a practice run with it (still sitting on my desk!) that I’ll type up tomorrowish. A tumblr friend already did it (!!!) and was super enthusiastic about it, my heart is so full. Anyway, here it is. Check out the link for all the info.

I’ve done a couple thrown together spreads before, but this is the first one I purposefully sat down and designed with intent. This spread is informed by my experiences and work facilitating diversity education workshops (I teach and facilitate on the concepts of privilege and oppression, particularly around the identities of race/ethnicty, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and national origin).
And the rainbow flag, because rainbows.

I wanted to do something around the theme of pride, around empowerment, around identities and self reflection. When I say pride, I don’t mean the arrogant, full of myself type pride. When I say pride, I mean the pride I worked so hard to build up and strengthen around those identities that have been torn down, been harmed, and have been a source of agony. This is a pride borne through pain, through finding community after being alone, through taking the parts of myself that are targeted and oppressed by society and turning into the steel of my spine. That pride.

    • I just wanted to say that I tried Potter’s Pride spread myself and LOVED IT. It’s a very well thought out spread and personally gave me a lot of constructive stuff to work with!

    • Here’s the reading I did with Potter’s spread:

      1. Passion – The Sun
      2. Strength – Nine of Cups
      3. Expression – Three of Swords (Yes, I do have some issues expressing my identity, thanks deck.)
      4. Growth – Ten of Wands
      5. Peace – The Empress
      6. Community – Knight of Cups
      7. Protection – The Fool.

In short, my passion is feeling free and fulfilled, which is connected to my strength, the contentment that my identity gives me. My expression, however, is what causes me turmoil, as I find my identity (and can I just say, coming out over and over and over) more hard to bear the older I get. I find peace through self-expression and form deep relationships with other members of the community – though, apparently, I protect myself by acting naive or trying to take everything lightheartedly. That last one came as a bit of a surprise to me!

      • Pretty sure I said this on tumblr, but love this. thank you. <3

I got the Empress for Community on my last run through (with queer/gay as my ID)! And the Devil was my significator, which I'm still working out.
