Are GSAs a thing in Australia? Any Aussies here with a GSA at their school? Because I’d pretty much never heard of GSAs until I found gays on the internet.

Hello you wonderful people! I’m 16, so I’m technically no longer underage in my UK motherland, but I still feel like I belong here.

So how about that brainstorming for gay-straight alliance activities? I just started my school’s, and we need stuff to DO.

I’ve been wanting to start one at my school, but I don’t know how

try talking to your principal and/or assistant principals about it. i don’t know how it works for other schools, but we have a REALLY active student club life over here, so it often boils down to simply filling out a few forms and finding a teacher to be the club’s advisor. oftentimes, i find it helpful to simply track down the biggest names and…[Read more]

our GSA does a lot of activites re: social activism, so perhaps i can help you out here! we’re actually visiting all of our health classes this month to talk about what it’s like to be young and queer, gay bullying, etc. etc. we visited all the social studies classes for the day of silence as well. i also highly recommend looking into LGBTQ…[Read more]

Those all sound like really good ideas that I’ll have to keep in mind for next year! We made ours this year and were just focusing on establishing its presence first before doing community outreach stuff next year.

We had a club day, too! And a surprisingly large amount of people signed up, but the activity dwindled after the first month or two and I’m pretty sure a good 50% never showed up at all, partially out of fear, I think. Clubs at my school are allowed a maximum of three fundraisers a year, I think. One advantage we have over other clubs is that we…[Read more]

This year, we did a fundraiser for AIDS Walk, Day of Silence, Night of Noise, No Name Calling Week, sold LGBT related tshirts and had “movie nights for human rights”. We’d show two movies at school that were generally related to human rights and people would donate to the club. We’ve also done things for LGBT history month and spread awareness…[Read more]

i just checked wikipedia, they aren’t a thing there. YET. (try?)
Haha, I go to a small all-girls Christian school. I can’t see us having a GSA. I would try if I could, though!
Maybe a secret underground GSA? Things done in secret have 500% more appeal (at times)!
I’m in NZ, so… I’m close… Heh, anyway, never heard of them either, til I discovered the internetz. We have PFLAG mostly :)
