Also Working On It 8 years, 2 months agoThis is such a good essay. Includes stuff about the Marines fitness test, the story about women and strength, and the mental and physical aspects of doing a pull-up. Plus @crystal it ends with a climbing gym!

Currently on week 2 of my pull-up challenge of 2k15, based on this article.

Also Working On It 8 years, 2 months agoThe last time I started trying to work out I had one less child and I only made it two days into the couchto5k program. So yeah. Let’s do this.

Also Working On It 8 years, 2 months agoI was thinking it would be nice to have some virtual workout colleagues to check in with regularly. I use Strava as a digital notebook of thoughts and strategies. I am training for a triathlon? Hahah but I’ve never run before so it’s very try and see, one day at a time, just for fun type of endeavor.
Anyway, if anyone wanted to be Strava pals,…[Read more]

Oh gosh well thanks I don’t think I’ve inspired anyone before so I will try to be worthy. That’s awesome you’re gunning for a triathlon too! Yeah let’s go for ittttt heheh.
A snorkel is a genius idea. I think you’ll have a bigger bow wake (air pocket) to start breathing in, compared to someone with less swimming experience in the bank. I really…[Read more]-
Oh and if you can, practice bilateral breathing (not just always breathing to the right, for example) from the beginning as it will give you faster form in the long run.

Also Working On It 8 years, 2 months agoif anyone wants a somewhat structured workout plan but doesn’t want to commit to a whole month, XHIT daily (it’s a youtube account) has a 7 day workout plan playlist that looks pretty great (i think the idea is that you do one of the videos, which are 10 to 20 minutes long, per day). https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpXJ7Rlnuy86EXp8vN_u4C9mXFg6zcj0e

Also Working On It 8 years, 2 months agois anyone else really afraid of weight machines in the gym? i have no problem using a cardio machine but the room with the weight machines always has just a couple really buff guys in there and i would feel weird struggling to figure out how to use the equipment and what’s what while they’re there lifting a hundred million pounds. i don’t know, any advice?
-
I definitely get that feeling. I would ask at your gym if there’s anyone that can give you an orientation session for the weight room. They should be happy to show you (in a short session) how all the machines work, help you adjust things for your body (where applicable) and find a starting weight that’s comfortable for you. If they don’t want to…[Read more]

There’s good info online! I like the Breaking Muscle blog because they include women and men and emphasize safety. Youtube is also awesome to give you a visual orientation of how to do the movements safely. If you’re a beginner at weight training, the advice is to use the machines that give compound movements (uses multiple muscle groups) like…[Read more]
