Cindy, nice one for just picking a date and running with it! My schedule’s still a bit up in the air, but will defs to my best to make this!
-
-
Felt like I should update and say my girl and I will both come by. I went to an AS meetup before and it was really successful, so I’m looking forward to meeting some new people :)
-
7-8 people attending with a week to go, hope you all come! Girl friends and girlfriends welcome, the more the merrier! x
-
Awh I wish I could come, but I have to be up early for uni the next day.. Give me a nudge next time you’re organising something! x
-
Just to update you again, so far 10 ppl have said they are coming! Hopefully they will all be there. Feel free to PM for my number.
For those of you who are missing out if all goes well we will discuss another meet up! x
-
excited for this :)
-
Agh, you guys, I have a brand new deadline for tomorrow, I’m so sad! Can you please all have a really great and awesome time – so great and awesome, in fact, that you feel really enthusiastic about another meet-up in the really, really near future? That would be IDEAL.
-
I’d love to go but I’m working tonight: thank you very much for the PM however. I hope it goes well and that I can make the next one!

my qualifier exam is in a little less than two weeks. i know it’ll be fine. i just wish i could actually relax enough to sleep!
-
I’m sure you will do fine. I’m convinced being totally nervous/stressed out is a sign you realize you will never know enough and continue to prepare up to the last possible minute. The people I have seen who fail are the people who are over confident. I don’t know how your exam works, but before my oral defense I didn’t sleep, ate a cookie and…[Read more]

thanks :) i definitely agree with that saying “the more you learn the more you realize how little you know” – and that’s part of the reason i love science so much, it’s just a constant stream of learning things that have never been discovered before. it just freaks me out that i’m sleeping 3-4 hours a night now for the fifth day in a row and i…[Read more]

hey, good luck! i ate leftover thai food for breakfast before my exam, so do whatever makes you feel good before yours :)
-
thanks for the good luck wishes! my plan is to listen to music and just chill till it’s time. i dunno if i could handle eating beforehand, but definitely coffee!
-
made it! phew! :D

Genderstraddlers 11 years, 8 months agoI think I’m going to post this question in a few groups to try to maximize advice… Please comment if you have any thoughts!
I’m a queer cis femme college grad who just started seeing a female-bodied genderqueer person who goes by the pronouns they/their/them. I’m doing my best to get used to using these pronouns, which I consistently do when…[Read more]

Well, as someone who is only out to some people as trans, I ask people when I tell them about me to continue using my old name and pronouns in public. My guess then for you would to be continuing using female pronouns until you’re able to talk with them about it.
-
Nikki, thank you for your advice! I thought I had responded but apparently not–sorry! See my response to smartypants below if you’re interested in how things turned out… thanks again for your input.

I maybe a little late to this party but wanted to lend some support–and also, applaud both your sensitivity and sense of politeness. I’m a big fan of being polite! Perhaps since your original comment was about a month ago, you’d be willing to let us know how it evolved for you?–what did you decide? How did you choose to negotiate this?–hope all is well.
-
Hey! Sorry for the slow response… saw this at work last week and didn’t get to reply. I ended up finally talking to the person about the pronoun question a couple weeks ago. They told me that they prefer for me/people to use their pronouns (they/their) in the company of others, since using she/her can create an uncomfortable disconnect on the…[Read more]

Well done Lindsay for having that conversation with your friend–and if I remember correctly, a romantic friend, n’est ce pas? In which case, I hope it’s going well…..
W/r/t friends who keep blowing it with the pronouns–I think calling on it “in the moment” (no Italics!) is probs the way I would go. Like small children and puppies, training…[Read more]
