The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoI’m reading The Help, because everyone else already has, and I usually like to read the book before I see the movie. Jezebel published a pretty scathing article about it recently, but I still like it so far.

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoI’m thinking of buying The Evolution of Bruno Littlemore, by Benjamin Hale. It’s about a chimp that’s raised as a human and actually develops language and behaves as a person. The chimp and his trainer gets worldwide recognition until he gets too human, the negative side.
Did anybody read it? Do you recommend it? -

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoAlright, let’s start this off with something boring. What are you currently reading, and what is it about? (THOUGHT PROVOKING EH!?)
-
Stories of Vladimir Nabokov. It’s a collection of his short stories, which are pretty much all over the damn place in terms of subject matter. But if you love his writing style, it’s all kinds of fantastic.

I just finished Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby. Thinking of re-reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to “prepare” for the movie
-
Don’t reread Harry Potter before the movie – you’ll just notice all the bits they left out!

Working on Jazz by Toni Morrison (about an affair and what lead up to it and what happened after… reading this for class, but it’s good so far) and rereading The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath (about a girl who goes crazy… reading this for a project for another one of my classes… LOVE) I can’t wait until the summer (2 more weeks!) then, I’ll have…[Read more]

I’ve started reading Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, but then my copy of it got soaked in a rainstorm. The book has dried out now, so I should probably go back to it?
-
I´m Reading The mountain church by Gunnar Gunnarsson. .

Currently re-reading Stephen Colbert’s I Am America (And So Can You!). I’d categorize it under General Awesomeness. What’s it about? According to Amazon: “Realizing that it takes more than thirty minutes a night to fix everything that’s destroying America, Colbert bravely takes on the forces aligned to destroy our country—whether they be t…[Read more]
-
I’m reading The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. It’s a dystopia where women are controlled, not allowed to have money and are forced into certain roles such as housekeepers or reproduction machines.
-
Just finished Fall On Your Knees by Anne-Marie MacDonald. Really liked it. Once I got about 1/2 way through I couldn’t put it down until I finished it – stayed up half the night. Now I’m reading Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures by Vincent Lam. It’s technically a collection of short stories, about a croup of medical students/residents. Finally…[Read more]
