Science Fictional 12 years, 5 months ago@nomi: for some reason the reply button on your post is broken god DAMN it.
Right when I joined I was all “hey I should see if anybody here likes Asimov and/or Heinlen” but I scrolled down, saw your post, freaked out and went to reply and it DIDN’T WORK D:
So anyway: Stranger in a Strange Land blew my mind when I was a freshman. I read The…[Read more]

Animestraddle 12 years, 5 months agoAny Hayao Miyazaki fans?
-
I’m not a hardcore Miyazaki fan, but I loved Mononoke Hime and Kiki’s Delivery Service.
-
I love Hayao Miyazaki! I really appreciate all the strong female characters he creates for his films.
-
Howl’s Moving Castle is probably the best anime movie I’ve ever seen. It has everything! EVERYTHING!!
Hayao Miyazaki + Joe Hisaishi = you won’t be disappointed. -
for sure, Grave of the fireflies was amazing made me cry.
Grew up on Laputa and Nasicaa. Seen almost every film and love their messages.
-
I love him, I’ve seen all of his Studio Ghibli films!
I’ve watched some of the other films from Studio Ghibli and they’re all amazing – especially Grave of the Fireflies! Although I don’t think I could watch it again, it’s too sad.

Animestraddle 12 years, 5 months agoI know there are just two of us so far, but maybe if we get a discussion going more people will join, so….What are some series you really like?
-
I’m all about old crap. I love Patalliro, From Eroica With Love, and Rose of Versailles. I like Utena but I’ve only seen one episode, and when I was a kid I really liked Sailor Moon and Maison Ikkoku. The only yuri I think I’ve seen was Strawberry Panic. Which was okay. You?
-
I loved Strawberry Panic! The relationships were adorable. Especially Amane and Hikari.
-
If you’ve seen Utena you should watch the movie they made based on the series. It makes no sense, but its epic and plus the romance between Utena and Anthy is really sweet. The dance scene has to be the most romantic thing I’ve ever seen in an anime.
-
I’ve only seen the movie and sort of kept watching it hoping that at some point an understandable plot would appear no such luck. Stranger than lady gaga and put me off watching the series :(

Utena should be required watching for any queer nerd, it is pretty amazing and the animation has held up pretty well when you compare it to modern anime. I also really dig Maria-Sama ga Miteru, which is yuri-flavored girls school drama. Rose of Versailles is another gay-ish one that everyone should see. OH! And Nana!
-
I love yaoi it seems more than Yuri:
Gravitation, BL academy and sukisho.
Loved the sweetness of:
DNAngel and Chobits.
Such a big strawberry panic fan that I made a costume and cosplayed it :P
-
I like yaoi too. It really intrigues me how so much of it is in some way an expression of female desire/vision. Not to into anything too seme/uke, though. Have you seen Kaze to Ki no Uta?
-
I haven’t what is it about? I’ve had a bit of trouble finding something new to watch coz I go to madman and they’re like have you seen “loveless” and i’m like errr I may already be partially obsessed with it.
I guess I just like it (plus other gay books or QAF etc.) coz as a straight male friend of mine once said (who is a big strawberry panic…[Read more]

It certainly has a certain zing of the forbidden and the liminal, yeah? Kaze to Ki no Uta is THE FIRST mainstream BL title. Tis about boys in a French boarding school, and very moving. The manga is in the process of translation, and the “anime” is actually a one-act OVA–beautifully done–but a little hard to follow if you don’t know the story,…[Read more]
