I’ve tried 4 or 5 times to be a vegetarian but the most I have lasted is 7 days..any tips?
-
Watch Earthlings, it’s streaming online at earthlings.com. It always helps.
What are you slipping up with?
-
I always slip when I am in a hurry and have class for the next 4-5 hours and just need something fast.
-
Plan ahead–pack some snacks in your bag (trail mix, nuts, lara bars or other types of bars, primal strips, whatever), have ingredients for PB&J or some other easy to make meal at home, and figure out what the nearby veg options are out. You can do it!
-
Thanks for the advice! I have actually made it to 2 weeks and I don’t see myself going back to eating meat. I did accidentally eat soup that was made with chicken broth but other than that everything has been good. Definitely been eating a lot of PB and J though!

I guess my question would be why you want to be a vegetarian if it’s something you can easy break? And I don’t mean it in a judgey way. I went on and off for months at a time and until I have finally reached being pescetarian for about 3 years now. Plan ahead and think about what you can eat. In a rush is tough, but I give myself the option of…[Read more]

I think it comes down to you really wanting to do it. I tried to be a vegetarian a few times but it didn’t stick. I never ate a lot of meat so I didn’t think it would be too difficult. Then I started reading some different books about all the horrible crap in so much of our food, meat included. First I stopped eating all processed foods which cut…[Read more]

For me, it was really helpful to have friends/roommates who went vegan at the same time, slightly earlier really. We could work together in figuring out good places to eat. Maybe see if there’s some sort of vegetarian club in your area/ at your school, and if not there are tons of online communities.
I also ate a ton of convenience foods, like…[Read more]

Autostraddle Musicians 12 years agoOpen question: what’s your songwriting process?
-
i usually write poems first then put to a group of recordings i did a while ago and they fit :)
-
I…totally suck at songwriting. I’m actually kind of hoping this will give me an excuse to talk to any cute songwriting girls at some point in my life. Silver. Lining.
-
I wish I had a specific process for composing, mostly I get some sort of non-musical concept first (like, current piece is on the Great Lakes) and then figure out how to translate it into music.
-
I also usually think of a particular instrumentation first and then music, though I’m coming to find that increasingly limiting.
-
-
I usually do something similar to what omission1234 does, I get a hook that comes to me, maybe based off a rhythm i came up. i build the song from there and then add the instrumentation
-
My songs all come up in one big inspiration vomit. I have to write it all down as fast as i can, play what i have so far and repeat. Sometimes I’ll write words for a chord progression that don’t fit so I write a new one or new lyrics months later.
