I’m an Aussie law student. I’m probably younger than most of the group here, because law in Australia is under grad, and I’m just a third year. I’ve got another 2.5 years to go and am currently interested in Admin law.
-
I’m studying admin law right now, and I’m 4th year! I’m finding it a bit tedious on the whole, but I’m glad that someone likes it, we definitely need admin lawyers (as demonstrated in the M70 case).
-
I agree with it being sometimes tedious — but I really enjoy the social justice aspects of it. It’s rare for the majority of interesting case law on a topic to deal with social justice issues, but that seems to be the case with admin law. It gives me hope that I can someday do work I enjoy and which makes use of my skills while still making a…[Read more]

WHERE do gay girls go out in Sydney? I feel like there must be some secret underworld of incredibly cool lesbars, and I just don’t know the password.
-
Tully told me that lesbians can be found at Freaky Tiki (Newtown) on a Wednesday night.
-
Thanks!
-
I think Freaky Tiki has closed for renovations.
Chicks with Picks, second Sunday over every month at the Clare hotel is pretty relaxed.
There’s the Bank on Wed nights but it tends to be a bit cliquey. Also the Sly Fox Wed nights too.-
Yeah, I thought it had.
I didn’t know about the Sly Fox though. Cheers!-
monthly Girlthing is on at Q bar, foam party this sat!
Also I love the Lick parties (every couple of months).
Go to Lemons with a twist if you want women over 30.
And just don’t go to moist ever unless you want to be one of 10 ppl in a club.

So … very few of my friends know that I’m gay, largely because I’ve been somewhat hesitant about labels because of bad associations. A couple of months ago, a friend confided in me that L wants to set me up with male friend V. I was pretty drunk, and thought it hilarious and laughed uproariously, but didn’t share why. Recently, another mutual…[Read more]

I chickened out.
-
I would have chickened out too. Don’t feel bad! If you’re worried about ruining a friendship by doing the wrong thing, maybe hang back and don’t say anything to V unless the topic comes up directly. Or alternately, when you’re out with the group or with only a few people, just let it slip casually that you like the ladies. Like, you could see…[Read more]

Thanks. I’ve told V, which solved the immediate problem and I’m working on coming out to the group. I’ve just been coming out these last couple of months and its so immensely liberating, I can’t wait to BE out, but HATE all the awkward conversations necessary to reach that point. Do you know the feeling? I’m not worried about being judge as…[Read more]

We Love Documentaries 12 years agoI just watched The Christine Jorgenson Story–it’s about the very first Transwoman. It was awesome because I’m so into LGBT rights but I feel like sometimes the Ts get left out. It was really cool to get a better perspective on that! Seriously great documentary.

I’ve tried 4 or 5 times to be a vegetarian but the most I have lasted is 7 days..any tips?
-
Watch Earthlings, it’s streaming online at earthlings.com. It always helps.
What are you slipping up with?
-
I always slip when I am in a hurry and have class for the next 4-5 hours and just need something fast.
-
Plan ahead–pack some snacks in your bag (trail mix, nuts, lara bars or other types of bars, primal strips, whatever), have ingredients for PB&J or some other easy to make meal at home, and figure out what the nearby veg options are out. You can do it!
-
Thanks for the advice! I have actually made it to 2 weeks and I don’t see myself going back to eating meat. I did accidentally eat soup that was made with chicken broth but other than that everything has been good. Definitely been eating a lot of PB and J though!

I guess my question would be why you want to be a vegetarian if it’s something you can easy break? And I don’t mean it in a judgey way. I went on and off for months at a time and until I have finally reached being pescetarian for about 3 years now. Plan ahead and think about what you can eat. In a rush is tough, but I give myself the option of…[Read more]

I think it comes down to you really wanting to do it. I tried to be a vegetarian a few times but it didn’t stick. I never ate a lot of meat so I didn’t think it would be too difficult. Then I started reading some different books about all the horrible crap in so much of our food, meat included. First I stopped eating all processed foods which cut…[Read more]

For me, it was really helpful to have friends/roommates who went vegan at the same time, slightly earlier really. We could work together in figuring out good places to eat. Maybe see if there’s some sort of vegetarian club in your area/ at your school, and if not there are tons of online communities.
I also ate a ton of convenience foods, like…[Read more]
