Hey y’all, thanks for joining! Can we do some intros?
I’m Jules, currently living in San Francisco where I’ve been doing an internship with the National Parks Service since January. This ends soon and next I’ll spend a few weeks working at an event for Specialized Bikes near San Jose. My home base has been Austin for a few years now, and when I’m there I’m usually earning money pedicabbing (bicycle taxi). I like doing pretty much anything that pays me to be outside and/or moving.
What are y’all up to these days?

    • Hey Jules, i’m scout and i used to ride for TCB in San Francisco, delivering food to the masses via bicycle! I’m currently in AZ visiting family, will be headed to Colorado for a WFR course in a couple weeks, then to Pittsburgh, PA to teach a workskills session to crew leaders for the Student Conservation Association, then up to the Adirondacks for another workskills session, then Vermont where this summer I will be a)co-directing a camp for queer kids b)lifeguarding c)working as a sawyer/trail maintenance crew lead d)coaching a local swim team
This fall/winter I’ll be relatively stable with a home base somewhere around Burlington, VT, where I’ll coach our winter swim team. I’m planning to live out of my car until the winter really makes it impossible, and then figure something out from there.
Thanks for creating this group! It’s nice to know of other queer nomads. :)

      • Hi Scout! I just did a two-day WFA class with NOLS… cool stuff! Who are you doing the trails work with? My internship right now is in trail construction!

        • Nice, who is your internship through? Are you at Golden Gate Park or up in the Headlands? Are you enjoying the trail construction world? I’ve been working in the trail/conservation world in various capacities for over a decade, and I love it.
Congrats on your WFA. Its great information. I’ve certainly put my WFR to good use over the years, and WMI is, in my opinion, the best provider of Wilderness medicine education.
This round of trail work I’m working as an independent contractor for the spot that is hosting the camp I’m co-directing. It’s a rad spot called the Common Ground Center out in Vermont.

          • I’m with GGNRA, which covers Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo County. It’s awesome work! We’re doing some basic rock work right now, which is the most absurd shit haha. I would really love to try a backcountry season, but I’m nervous about the whole thing… seems like it wears down your body pretty fast sometimes, and I am kind of a small person/maybe not built for it. Cool that you get to take your knowledge into another area like that! I googled and it looks like a great place!
