yes this is the story of my life. i love wearing skirts and makeup but i have a masculine walk/voice/personality. also i am pretty exclusively attracted to femme girls (and straight girls fml) who probably are looking for more of a butch partner (or a dude). anyone in a similar boat?

I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder a year and a half ago. Does anyone else here have it? How do you deal with it?
-
I was diagnosed two and a half years ago. At first I took meds for it but they made me feel like I was no longer alive so I stopped them. I also suffer from severe depression and the medication I am on for that has helped the anxiety.
When I get super nervous I usually put my hand on my heart or artery in my throat so I can feel my heartbeat.…[Read more]-

I’ve been diagnosed with that! Unfortunately, I’m not real good at dealing with it. I haven’t had a face-to-face conversation with someone I’m not related to me or a heal care professional for a few years now (small talk with various cashiers don’t count!). That’s mostly a product of my living situation, since I live way the hell out in the…[Read more]

i was diagnosed w/ clinical depression 10 years ago and w/in the last year had an additional diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder (i worry abt EVERYTHING -can’t shut the busy brain off) and ADD. good times. medication is helping a bit, and talking to a therapist is vital for me.
-
I might be you, it’s undiagnosed but I’m pretty sure I have clinical depression, a generalized anxiety disorder, and ADD.

it’s like a tilt-a-whirl sometimes, don’cha think?
-
I’m not quite sure what a tilt-a-whirl is, but it sounds very fitting

it’s an amusement park ride. the cars spin as they’re moved in a circle. basically it feels like you’re being flung around and all you can do is hang on really tight to something *and by all that’s holy, beg it to stop spinning!* http://bit.ly/jtYLQ9

I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder three years ago. What’s helped me the most has definitely been seeing a really good therapist. Having an encouraging, consistent, objective individual to help guide you through dealing with your anxiety is SO IMPORTANT. Really. Can’t stress it enough. When I was first diagnosed I was at a point where I…[Read more]

My therapist has helped me so much, too. I can’t remember my life before I had a therapist, lol. It is really great to have a dependable person to talk to who is not part of my family or friend circle.
-
I have really severe social anxiety as well. I didn’t leave my house for almost a year one time. I’m now doing better thanks to exposure and cognitive behavioral therapy. I am a college student now with a job, so I’m able to function enough to survive.
My biggest problem is my social life. Dating is near impossible, and I can’t make friends very…[Read more]

Social anxiety is something I may always struggle with. A suffered pretty bad depression a long time ago coupled with social anxiety. My doctor prescribed me Neurontin for the anxiety and I saw a therapist every week. It helped. What helped most was doing things to make myself feel more confident, taking care of myself, working out, being…[Read more]

So…is Shystraddlers going to have a meetup anytime soon?
-
I’d be up for it. Hermits United!
-
Sweet. When would you like to meet up? I watched the Hermits United! video, too – I really need to start watching Doctor Who…and Torchwood, at that.
-
Well, we’re in the middle of moving, so I probably wouldn’t be available until the end of next month. The biggest problem is location. Where are you? I’m in northern Idaho right now and we’re moving down to south eastern Washington. Spokane or Pullman in WA or Coeur d’Alene or Moscow in Idaho wouldn’t be too far to drive. I need to look and…[Read more]

Bah. That is of course the one important detail I forgot to mention. I’m in San Francisco, and that’s a bit too far to go for me, unfortunately. I hope your week’s going well so far, though.
-
Ah, distance is a killer. If I were a wizard, this wouldn’t be a problem.
-
-
Interesting, fingers crossed if I get the interview and get the job (which may be a long shot, but I’m possibly delusionally hopeful) I’ll be moving to NE Oregon
-
Ooh, good luck on the interview! Oregon is lovely. If you do end up moving there, drop a note here. That’s not too far for me to drive for a meetup.

if anyone is near NC, send me a message and we’ll figure something out. NC Pride is in September (it’s too darn hot in June).

o.o omg there are people in my house. They are drinking and laughing and singing really loud to Beatles songs. I am hiding in a fort upstairs with a laptop and a bottle of gin. I wish the people would just go AWAY so I could write my history of education paper…ok let’s be real, I’d probably be watching last night’s So You Think You Dance. Either…[Read more]

I feel like i have to live by some kind of standards in being a butch or femme. just sayin.
-
yeah i get you. i feel like as long as i continue being in limbo i won’t attract any sort of girls whatsoever. which is a depressing thought.
-
I do not know anyone who has point this out, but this is such a good point. The femmes are like shmexi with their pumps and short skirts and the butches are like radiating homogayness. I on the other have to wear a rainbow button.
-
hahah exactly! nobody knows i am bi unless i tell them. which is good for hiding it from my parents but bad for the queer dating scene.
-
Like what they all say, You can’t get out till you’re out! I also hide it from my parents (conservative christians! word). They think I’m just turning into a typical ultra feminist. As long as I don’t say the L word, have a big confrontation about it or bring a girl home. It’s just gonna be to a point where it’s so obvious that I’m gay, but…[Read more]

holy shit i think we have the exact same life!! gotta love conservative christian parents. the only way mine are ever knowing is if i’m considering a civil union/marriage.
-
It’s going to be like when 15 years later, I’m gonna call my mom and like “Hey mom! I’m engaged!” and then her name’s gonna be like Pat or something and then my parents are gonna think “Aww Patrick! What a lovely name!” and then when we show up at the doorstep, “Hi mom! Meet my fiance, Patricia!” de lulz. I’m actually not gonna do that since I…[Read more]

My parents were like that, so I never “came out” I just started bringing girls home.
and then right before my dad died, we were watching food network and cat cora was on and he said “so, cat cora’s a lesbian too” and I said “yup” and he said “cool, just makin sure” and that was that. wasn’t nearly as scary as i thought it would be.
so i guess…[Read more]

aww that’s sweet. I kept wishing my parents would surprise me but they’re just so predictable.

wow. i can’t imagine such acceptance from my family. i casually dropped the fact that i didn’t think homosexuality was a sin and we all got into a heated argument in which only one out of six family members (my lil sis) was on my side. woot.
-
haha… I’m already turning my younger brothers into the “dark” side. I constantly scold them for saying “that’s so gay!”.
-
woof. it get’s better? idk my whole life my parents were so anti gay, they constantly talked shit about homo’s and how we’re going to hell and my dad did that whole “well, if they weren’t so OBVIOUS” thing (along with the “i just don’t want them hitting on me” which i once got grounded for replying “they wouldn’t, gays have taste”) that always…[Read more]

o/ — but i make an effort to be social when i can.
I have been known to refer to myself as a hermit or as having hermit-ish tendencies. I’m totally a homebody/loner, I generally like to be alone but I do make an effort to be social at times.
i would also confess to hermit-ish tendancies…
I think that’s how people view me because I always make up excuses to avoid invitations to do anything. I realize I am letting myself flounder with zero social capital, but I’m perfectly content doing my own thing and whenever I have to deal with awkward/bad social interactions, it bothers me. I don’t experience enough truly good social…[Read more]
