Ohhh! Canada 12 years, 4 months agoHello Canadians/Canadaphiles! I love Canada, and when my comparative gov teacher told me to write my final paper on an international government, naturally I chose the illustrious government of the true north, even though it is not so sparkly these days. However, there’s a lot of stuff I feel like I’m missing, so if you’re into Canadian politics or…[Read more]

Doctor Whovians 12 years, 4 months agoI don’t know why, but River’s true identity sort of pisses me off. I might have to watch that episode again.
-
It’s going to take a re-watching or two and some time, I’m not super thrilled with River’s true identity either but I think I’ll eventually adjust.
-
Yeah … it was the least surprising revelation ever. I mean, some of the Doctor Who blogs were joking about it from the beginning of the season. It just seemed too out there to take seriously … and behold! It’s actually true.
-
I’m just really hoping that the Doctor doesn’t spend too much time with her when she’s a young girl, I like their relationship so far but that might be a little too much for me.
-
I almost think that I preferred River when she was a mystery, this seems a little too last minute and mundane for the kind of hype that they’ve had with her.
I don’t know really, I think I need to rewatch the episode a couple times and then decide how I feel about it.
-
I think this whole Who Is River Song?!? thing has been built up and strung out for so long that any revelation as to her identity, no matter what it is, would seem like kind of a let down. I do like how it answered the question of how she knew the Doctor’s real name (she read it on his cradle!) in an unexpected way.

Doctor Whovians 12 years, 4 months agoOH MY GOD I REALLY WANT TO FLAIL ABOUT SOME NEW CHARACTERS IN EP 7. people who’ve watched it know who i’m talking about. i’d like to autostraddle some of that. oh man, can they have their own spin-off show?
-
Yeah wow I thought I was just being crazy and wanted it too much but eventually there was no way they weren’t. They could easily make a show about them, considering the one person’s profession. (Ahh talking in vague terms.)
Thank you Steven Moffat!
-
YES! They were so awesome! And Victorian! And interspecies! Far too perfect characters for some fun adventures to not have them turn up again
-
Just imagine the fan fiction possibilities.
-
Yes…there was that….and also a certain someone in uniform I’m hoping we’ll have a flash-fo/back to next seasonette…..
-
“Why do I put up with you?” *tongue*
They need their own show like, yesterday.
-
Completely. The shout out to the gay married Anglican marines was good, but lizard lady and friend were amazing. Fanfiction should take this up, or the BBC, but I doubt they will.
-
So freaking awesome, I want a series following them.

Okay, I’m going to be at The Forks tomorrow after the parade. If anyone wants to meet up with me and Nat, we’re going to be at the Johnston Terminal around 1 pm. Since I don’t own any rainbow clothing, I’m going to wear bright blue pants and a green shirt.

Ohhh! Canada 12 years, 4 months agoAnyone from London? Part of me is excited to go to Huron at UWO but Ottawa sounds like it has a much larger and active queer community.
-
Dude! I’m from London! :)
Ahhh, I don’t like UWO so much though. Pride Western is pretty awesome though — a few years ago I got to do a leadership conference there through my high school’s GSA. It was such a great experience! I got a t-shirt. :)
-
Hearing about Pride Western’s awesomeness is a huge relief. To be honest, I’m not a fan of UWO either but Huron has a nice U of T feel to it. And I get small classes while reaping the benefits of UWO’s clubs and resources :D
-
Yeah, that’s cool! So you’re just finishing up high school right now? Where at? I’m finishing up my last year (well, victory lap) here myself. And yeah, Huron might be alright. To be honest, I don’t know much about the colleges. What are you majoring in?
-
I’m finishing a victory lap as well. I go to St. Pat’s in Sarnia, so about an hour away. For now I plan to major in French but I’m not too sure about it yet. Do you have any plans for next year?
-
I’ve actually never heard of that school. D: I have family in Sarnia, but their only child is only a few years old. And take your time! I know for a lot of programs you don’t need to know what you want to specialize in for a few years… I’m in the health studies program at Waterloo for next year, so I don’t really have all that much wiggle…[Read more]

It’s not a big school. I was actually really surprised when I met some London kids who had heard of it. Yeah, luckily I don’t have to decide until second year. Haha, I think my parents wouldn’t be too happy if I made it to fourth year without deciding. But that’s comforting to know. Hopefully you’re sure with your program.

I think so, one thing I do have is a really strong sense of direction, haha.

Okay, I propose a get together during Pride week (or at Pride?) because I can’t think of a better time to do so. Yes?
-
Perhaps perhaps…. anybody else?
-
I’m bringing the newly joined Nat and dragging another friend with us =P
-
-
I will be at pride for sure
-
Cool, I’m planning on just hanging out at The Forks.
-
I’ll be at The Spoons… jk.
-
I nominate that to be the new trendy LGBT spot. De-emphasize the G (except for where it counts! Boo-ya!)
-
Oh my, lol.
-
I shall be at the Forks sometime sunday…
-
As will I (and Nat?)… Should we attempt an arranged meeting, or should I try and stalk you based on your teeny tiny picture? =P

MEETING!!!!!! YES

Doctor Whovians 12 years, 4 months agoSo I just finished watching ep 6 The Almost People and no spoilers, but the ending was the most personally terrifying I can remember. I have nightmares where that kinda thing happens to me. How long until we can discuss things?
-
It doesn’t air in the US and Canada until next week. Usually we wait a week to discuss episodes, so I would guess next week, but I don’t care if you discuss it before then I’ll to avoid the thread to avoid spoilers
-
You sure? I torrent like mad, but I could swear BBC America was simulcasting a second showing to synch with the Brit next-day re-airing?
-
BBC America was airing them the same week as the BBC, but because last weekend was Memorial Day weekend BBC America had a marathon rather than show the new episode so the US is a week behind now (we got ‘the almost people’ yesterday and not ‘a good man goes to war’), maybe they’ll resync up at some point.

1. I think the biggest problem is that we can become too entrenched in the idea of “Canada as utopia” as a nation. I love my country, but the serious issues that face Native Canadians living on and off reserves as well as other minorities are too scary too ignore.
2. Man, i didn’t even get to vote this time. friggin election was like six months…[Read more]
1. I think the biggest problem right now is the shifting nature of our economy. It’s moving from a balanced economy with resource extraction/manufacturing and services based in Ontario to energy extraction from Alberta/Sask which is killing the east. I agree with the above poster though, the quality of services/opportunity for aboriginal Canadians…[Read more]
