Ohhh! Canada 11 years, 6 months agoI live in NYC but I speak to people in Canada often on the phone for work. Almost every day I want to tell a woman I am speaking to how cute her accent is, but I think that would be pretty inappropriate and most likely awkward. I am here to tell all you lovely Canadians you have wonderful accents…hopefully it is not awkward.

I’m so happy this group exists. Are any of y’all in TN? Would a shystraddler meetup be an oxymoron?
-
I live in Nashville, and I grew up in Memphis. A shystraddler meetup would be awesome and kind of terrifying and awesome.
-
Wow same! Grew up in Memphis, in school at Nashville. What’d a shystradller meetup look like? Going to bookman/bookwoman and readin g in proximity to one another counts as socialization yes? :p

I’m terribly shy and awkward around girls.. Not sure how to get over that. Anyone else in the same situation? lol
-
I totally know how you feel. The way to get over it is a process, and you take baby steps. One of the first things to do is just to talk even if you feel awkward, and accept that you’ll probably say stupid things that the other person doesn’t even realize are stupid. Average people, I’ve found, don’t pay too close attention to what you say.

Yes, I’m totally the same! I get really shy and usually end up making a fool of myself somehow whenever I’m around a girl I like. Its embarrassing.
Sharks, thats great advice particularly about keeping conversations simple and asking people about themselves, genius.
But seriously, I hope this is something that goes with time, hmfph…

Sometimes skittering is okay though. I met one of my best friends because he and I had accidentally skittered our way under the same staircase at a college scholarship competition weekend. (There wasn’t enough room for us to skitter away from each other there) It can turn out well. Not that I recommend it as a general strategy.

Aww, sweet story! I bet that it was alarming to meet someone so unexpectedly. Would be funny if it was a general strategy for meeting people tho.
I’m actually ok normally but when it comes to girls I’m suddenly introverted, shy and clumsy (ok, im always fairly clumsy). Its interesting cuz when I’m hit on by guys, I have the power but its the…[Read more]

Thank you! It’s not awkward :)
Though it’s funny how some of us can’t really hear the difference between certain Americans and Canadians!
