Autostraddle Sports Club 12 years, 5 months agoany horseback riders, current and/or former and/or aspiring, up in this piece?
-
or polo. i wish i played horse-type polo.
-
former horseback rider here. until I fell and broke my arm during a jump. after that my mother vetoed any more classes. :(
I got to jump 70centimeters though.-
i had to quit when we moved and the barn in the new town was full of douchebags and it wasn’t worth the trouble. now i wish i’d stuck with it.

-
Hell yes! Lucky to have grown up with them and still currently riding more than ever/competing across the province. Its my only sanity in this small town.

Doctor Whovians 12 years, 5 months agoCan we talk about the first two episodes yet? How scary were the Silence? Haven’t they used that “when you see something out of the corner of your eye, or glimpse in a mirror” trope over and over again? WTF pregnant/not pregnant/Time Lord baby?
-
IKR? How is Timebaby there? Also, I Cannot Wait for the Gaimen episode. Where is a TARDIS when you need one?
-
oh I know, two more days, I can’t wait!
-
This is what sucks about being completely caught up on all the episodes, you’re stuck waiting for the next one :P
-
So very agreed. I try not to watch TV shows until they’re very over, but I can’t wait that long on this one.
-

-
-
okay, so someone told me they were the Silents. Not a correction, more of a question. Is this true? Opinions? I think that would be more interesting. cuz like, what? and it would make me feel that they operate more like autonomous from each other. but i dont even know.
and, in reference to last season mostly, are they leaving(like, w/out dying)?…[Read more]

I spent most of the episode trying to figure out if they were saying “Silents” or “Silence”. I think “Silents” sounds more like a Doctor Who name.
But basically what I’m saying is I don’t have any information for you.
-
I went all official and checked out BBC America’s Doctor Who page, they are called the ‘Silence’ there. The Silence seems more menacing to me, idk. After watching those two episodes I’d like to go back to the previous season and look for Silence references…
-
I did go back. It’s so weird cuz, even knowing what the Silence is, it like doesn’t make sense. But in the good way, not in the “help me i’m confuzzled” way. And it feels disconnected. I dunno, they just seem too complicated. Like, if they were a color, it would be someone said “green”, but not more specific so you only kinda know what they mean.…[Read more]

Soooo I am moving to london next week (!!!). Any londoners got any tips for me?
-
Walk tall and avoid Oxford Street on a weekend. :)
-
haha in Sydney, Australia Oxford St is the name of our designated street for gays. oh the irony.
-
I was born on that street! I never had a chance…
-
-
-
Seconded!
What kind of thing do you want tips on?
-
You’ll probably develop a Londoner walk – like Nikki said, walk tall (and fast/with purpose).
I’m sure you know this already, but buy a oyster card!
I have lots of restaurant tips if you want, but a good one is Icco’s on the corner of Goodge & Charlotte St – big thin crispy pizzas from £3.50, which is really good value for central London :)

i love living in london!
jessicav is right you will develop a londoner walk – soon you will be petitioning for ’tourist’ and ’resident’ lanes on pavements…. or you’ll cycle, which the best way to get around !
if you are ever near old street, check out a cafe/bike workship called ’look mum no hands’.
and if you like veggie/ organic food, v…[Read more]

Autostraddle Sports Club 12 years, 5 months agoheya…any hockey players? (I play grass-hockey…way too unco to control skates… but ice hockey is cool too!!!)
-
i played ice hockey in high school. i couldn’t skate either when i started. but i found out that the best way to learn to skate is to do it in full pads while carrying a big stick to lean on!
-
me! field hockey goalie! it was the last sport I played competitively
ah, to be 17 again…-
haha!!! I play full back (yes, I am ididotic enough to run infront of the ball without any protection- save for a mouth-gaurd and shinnies) though there is no way I could play goalie!!
I’ve started playing again this season after a five year break. Its cometitive but relaxed!! Juuust the way I like it!

back when i lived in hawaii (circa ’95-’97) i played roller hockey. i was on the marine base team & my parents had to petition to let me play b/c there were no other girls in the entire league. i played forward & rocked it. i had to fill in for goalie once & suuuuucked. i basically would do the “goalie pose” (you know?) for any & all shots. so i…[Read more]

ohhh… I played lacrosse for a verrrry short school carnival probably 6 or 7 years ago and loved it! But unfortunately that was a one-off thing. As far as I know there isn’t much of a lacrosse league here in South Australia, hockey even though it has a fairly large following (nothing compared to footy/soccer/AFL, tennis, netball and cricket) is…[Read more]

Aww… Thats really cool. My lil bro started playing eight or nine years ago and then I started playing a year later. Everyone in the family has played at some stage, mum had a one-season run (and was in the same team as me) and dad’s been playing for a few years now!
-
aaah! field-hockey all the way baby!! Gotta love the game, the girls and the crazy parties! I’ve been playing for 11 years!

Doctor Whovians 12 years, 5 months agoRadio Free Skaro is a really fun Doctor Who podcast that I love listening to, but I’ve been putting off listening to the one from two weeks ago because they have a tribute to Elisabeth Sladen that I knew would just gut me. I finally listened to it in the car on the way home from town this morning and it did, in fact, gut me. I loved Sarah Jane…[Read more]
