So far the Republicans don’t really have a viable candidate I think. A lot of them are so right-wing they will only appeal to the Tea Party. Tim Pawlenty seems the most likely.
Although apparently The Donald is verrrry popular in Republican circles.
-
Debates with Donald Trump would be fun to watch, but his seriousness makes me worry about what will happen if he actually wins.
-
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Apparently in 2000 everyone thought Bush would never get in…
And Palin came within a whisker of it, she just didn’t camouflage her stupidity enough.

I watched the first Republican debate last week. No one *really* stood out to me, but it’s still early.
Also, Newt Gingrich is expected to announce his intention to run on Wednesday…so there’s that as well.
-
Yes, I heard that. His reputation isn’t great, but he has a reputation unlike most of the others, and he has a few million names on lists he can bombard.
If you look at what the GOP is trying to do to women and queer rights, with only one house under their control, I truly shudder to think what will happen when they have complete control.

Political Straddlers 12 years, 5 months agoEveryone should be worried by this, but if you’re a girl in the UK education system particularly so. We are going the way of the US, and not in the good sense.

It will be interesting to see if this gets any genuine traction for the second reading (Jan 2012) . Since this bill was introduced using the 10 minute rule there was little debate so it’s worth a read: http://www.theyworkforyou.com/debates/?id=2011-05-04a.679.0

Yeah, I’m hoping it’ll be ok. But with the Tories effectively in charge, it’s the kind of thing that may well get through.

Anyone else fathomed why the Tories have the largest percentage of out gay MPs? This one actually voted for Section 28 [equivalent to Tennessee’s new ‘don’t say gay’ law] and against lowering the age of consent for gay men (which was 21 as opposed to 16 for straights.)…[Read more]
