so question for you guys. i’m considering joining the LGBTQ group on my campus but main reason i didn’t last year when i first moved was because i was afraid i’d end up hanging out with students in my classes. is that ridiculous? i guess i’m worried about maintaining some level of professionalism since i have to teach, but now i just want to hang…[Read more]

I don’t have an answer… I would just like to say that I’m going through the exact same thing right now.
-
I think this is going to happen to me too.
-
Is there no grad student queer org? (start one?) Also, you could volunteer at a local queer org and meet people off campus that way!
-
I’ve kinda established myself as a grad student in the group and don’t hang out with the members much outside of GSA stuff (with the exception of a few – who actually are mostly other grads). As fairly knowledgeable about queer academics – which very few others in my group are b/c their isnt much of a gender/women’s/queer studies program here -…[Read more]

That’s neat. I feel like I’m not knowledgeable enough to be an advisor! But I can definitely be (or rather, I guess I already am) a nerdy queer in the corner :D I emailed the group and apparently they don’t have meetings or anything, just random events scattered around the year, so we’ll see how it goes.
-
Good luck! Hope you are able to find a comfortable way to negotiate your place in the group.

Thanks :)

NYC Autostraddlers 12 years, 1 month agoOkay, I need help! I’m throwing a bachelorette party for my bff here in NYC and she wants to do something strippy, but not a strip club. I’m thinking soemthing go-go dancer/burlesque-y. Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks!
-
On Weds and Thursday’s Nurse Betty’s has a cute free burlesque show. I also heard that Dron has a burlesque show the first Saturday of every month that’s supposed to be fun.
-
If your crowd is artistically inclined, maybe Dr. Sketchy’s? It’s a burlesque life drawing event. http://www.drsketchy.com/

Thanks for the suggestions! We ended up at Duane Park, which I would highly recommend. Then sent the bride off on a scavenger hunt on all of her favorite NYC places, including RF and Cubbyhole. She just got married (LEGALLLLYYY!) this past weekend and it was amazing :D Thank you, New York!!

Autostraddle Sports Club 12 years, 1 month agoThe Western New York Flash beat the Philadelphia Independence in a penalty shootout to win the WPS title in their first season on Saturday. Christine Sinclair gave the Flash a 1-0 lead that was nearly enough to win it in 90 minutes, but Amy Rodriguez equalized in the 87th minute to extra time and then penalties, which the Flash won 5-4.

Does anyone want to talk with me about Final Fantasy X? I am at that part after killing Seymour. I know this game is 10 years old but it’s still relevant… right?
I still have my gameboy from like 1999.
-
Dude, Final Fantasy X is like, my favorite game ever. My brother and I bonded over that game in High School. Rikku is definitely my secret video game girl crush. I still have my ps2 hooked up for those occasional “must play FFX immediately” moments.
-
I think Yuna is kinda cute. Is FFX2 good?
-
It brings back the job system, and answers questions from FFX.
Some people like it and some don’t. It’s a hit or miss I guess. -
Yeah, it’s definitely hit or miss. It’s fun, and the girls are all pretty hot, so there’s that. It’s definitely not on the same quality level as the first one, but it’s worth playing, especially if you’re really interested in how Spira will change after the first game. Or in how much smaller Rikku’s (or Yuna’s) clothes can get.

-
Rikku was a critical milestone in my path of gay. I had all the feelings for her before I realized what those feelings meant.
