Genderstraddlers 12 years, 4 months agoHello lovely straddlers :) I hope you’re all doing well.
So….hair. Do you have feelings about it? It seems like such a very gendered thing. Personally I have really long hair. As in down to my ass kind of hair. I’ve more or less always had it like this and I like this way. Sometimes though it just seems to fall down my back like a big shiny…[Read more] -

Genderstraddlers 12 years, 4 months agoSo my area had our Pride festival yesterday, which started at 6:45 am and did not end until 4:00 am this morning. It was pretty awesome, but I had one problem. I had a LOT of gay guys hit on me!! [I’m a girl, and didn’t think I was THAT androgynous looking until last night] My feelings are mixed, somewhere in between being flattered and really…[Read more]

I had a 40 year old gay man hit on me at a gay bar recently. At first I was a bit flattered, then he became super creepy and kept sending his friends over to talk to me. Apparently my voice did not give me away and he became more of a creeper until my friend posed as my boyfriend.
-
Oh I’m glad it’s not just me. LOL on having your friend pose…was said friend a girl or a guy [or other]?
Because two girls pretending to be gay boyfriends tickles me for some reason :P I think I just get a kick out of gender bending.-
Well, he’s a transman and I guess I was being perceived as male, so we were seen as a gay couple? Who knows though, gender is confusing!
-
Gender IS confusing! I find I do best when I don’t try to label myself too specifically or think about it too much…which I should/am trying to do at the moment lol.

Haha, I’ve run into this a couple times too. Wandering around the gay village in Toronto when I had just recently moved into the area, I found myself being checked out by gay men when I walked by. It was a little unsettling haha. But I think that was arguably more tolerable than this weekend when I got hit on by a high school freshman girl……[Read more]

I know what you mean about hair being such a strong influence in how people gender you – personally, my upbringing has given me a skewed outlook on the gender of hair. The two constantly long-haired people I saw growing up were my dad and my closest-in-age guy cousin, and my very female best friend got a buzz cut as soon as she broke free of her…[Read more]
I tend not to categorize other people based on their hair (I agree with Cricket, it’s more of a cultural thing) but from personal experience it’s a huge indicator for most societies. I’ve had short hair since 2006. Mostly when I’m in contact with any customer service – shops, airport security, hotel check-in, takeout counters – everyone calls me…[Read more]
