Coffee shops in Capitol Hill are my favorite places. Everyone has alternative lifestyle haircuts! This makes it harder to identify the queers quickly, but it also makes everybody 100% cuter.

Though there’s never any parking in cap hill, so I spend my time at the only coffee shop that also has vegan waffles in the CD. Also because I live in the CD.

sorry to hear that. i had the same issue getting a crush on my straight labmate who was in a long distance relationship. it sucks. i don’t have great answers but distancing myself from her – at one point i was seeing her every day, at work and then often in the evening as well, it’s a small grad community here – helped me get over it.

I think you are right and that is what I need to do. Just get some real estate in there because we are together a lot and talk a lot and it is really hard to have boundaries.

Did you ever really say it out-loud to her though? Like part of me is like I need to just say it and name it and let the chips fall. no, i didn’t, because i’m just at the beginning of my phd and don’t want to spend the next 5 years having the potentially awkward/disastrous consequences hanging over us in the work place… on the other hand i’m maybe too rational when it comes to emotional things.

I’m a physical chemist – I do single molecule spectroscopy on protein chromatography (how they separate the desired drug from all the harmful stuff they use in the pharmaceutical industry). Basically I sit in the dark and play with lasers all day!
