Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years ago This morning I finished Any Human Heart by William Boyd (512 pages). I’ve had this for ages and finally decided to pick it up after several recommendations and watching the Channel 4 mini-series earlier in the year.
Any Human Heart is about the life of Logan Mountstuart – or perhaps even the many lives of Logan Mountstuart. It starts when Logan is a teenager at college and ends with his death. It is told through his diaries and shows how Logan evolves through time. It’s a sweeping novel about life in a fascinating period (Logan is born in the early 1900s and dies in the 1990s). He works as a writer and a spy, he loves and hates. And it’s hard to pick out any major plot point because it is about one man’s life. But I’d recommend it. As simplistic as this statement may seem; it’s good.
