    Hi @internrachel @julia1

So after what felt like to me a book flurry during my holidays it has taken me a week to finish ‘Mud’ by Nicky Edwards which is only 192 pags.
I bought it from a charity shop because it was a Women’s Fiction Press book. I don’t know if anywhere outside of Britain has that but I’m sure there are equivalents; in the UK they’re identifiable by black and white striped spines, written by ladies and generally have a political skew.

‘Mud’ was written in the 80s and is written by an ex-peace protester (Jo) who is writing a play about the Second World War. As part of her research she meets Ada, an eighty-something widow who worked in a munitions factory, who has somewhat opposing views to Jo.
Jo and Ada have talks and share feelings, this weird man follows Jo about, Jo starts a relationship with some woman from her gym, Ada’s husband’s best friend knows all kinds of secrets…
All in all it’s not that gripping to be honest. Nicky Edwards was a peace protester herself and I suppose that political aspect is obvious, it’s unavoidable actually, and that would be fine but it’s not particularly informative. It seems to be very of the period it was written, very much in time with that feminist movement but also trying too hard. Maybe that’s why it didn’t resonate with me because it was of it’s time… I don’t know, I’d be interested in other views if anyone has read it.
