I forgot to list the things I’ve been reading. Oops. Other than all of autostraddle, I recently read:

Fun Home by Alison Bechdel (232 pages)

This graphic novel was wonderful to read. Filled with references to The Odyssey, Joyce, and approximately a bajillion lesbian books, this is one of my new favorites. Her drawing style is friendly and familiar, and gives you a highly intimate look on her relationship with her father and family, as well as the discovery and understanding of her sexuality.

King John by Shakespeare (169 pages)

As per usual, the king dies and everyone wants a piece of the throne. Guess who the King is during the play…Yup! King John! He inherits the throne from Richard I (also known as Geoffrey), but Constance wants none of this. She wants her adolescent son Arthur to inherit the throne. This doesn’t work out. Ultimately King John gets poisoned by a monk, and the throne goes to John’s son Henry (also known as King Henry III). Constance is officially one of my new favorite Shakespearean women. She is never afraid to raise all hell, even when the rest of the characters dread inviting her to anything. As I’m currently on a quest to read all of the Shakespeare, this has brought me another play closer (29 down)! Also, who doesn’t like to read something where one of the characters is literally referred to as Bastard through the entire play?
