Hijab is not to Protect Men, but to Honor Women.

A very great talk dealing with what the hijab means, and what it doesn’t. It’s generally a very good discussion of sexism and misogyny in the Muslim world, from a Muslim perspective.

    • Sorry, I just realized I used the very undescriptive “very good” and “very great” in describing the article.

Also, it should be said, the article is not without it’s problems. The author believes that hijab is required. In fact, large parts of the article talk about how to coax non-hijabis into covering themselves.

What makes the article worth reading, for me, is how it frames the hijab. It’s very adamant in rebuking notions that the hijab relates to men, and the larger issue of sexism in regards to the hijab. I think it’s important because it’s making a feminist argument, and doing it from a traditionalist Muslim perspective. Now, it’s certainly problematic in that most sisters already understand this. It’s still, however, a well said declaration.
