Harry Potter Appreciation Society 12 years, 6 months agoOy. So my aunt brought back a copy of The Philosopher’s Stone from England in late ’97 when I was 5, and it took me a while to read it but HOLY CRAP. I was FIVE. The last movie comes out soon, and I’m going to COLLEGE. This series has been in my life for SO EFFING LONG. What am I going to do with myself when it’s over? Is anybody else going crazy…[Read more]

I feel the same way. I first read Sorcerer’s Stone way back in second grade when I was the new kid everybody hated. I would sneak into the library, hide between the shelves and immerse myself into Harry’s world. And after all these years, Harry’s story is coming to an end. I kind of don’t know what I’ll be doing with my life either.
-
Yup, I had a mini existential crisis when I finished Deathly Hallows and realised there weren’t any more books – but at least I had the movies. Now the last movie is coming and WHAT WILL I DO?!
-
There will probably be a mini hearbreak period, then you will remember them with fondness forever :) That’s my guess as to how I’ll react
-
I first read the books in third grade, and I saw the first movie on a field trip with my sixth grade class the day it came out. Now I’m about to begin my last year of college. It’s so weird. It’s the end of an era!

*tentatively says “hello”* who am i kidding. online is sooo much more comfortable than in person. i’m sure i’d be uncomfy with this if confronted, but i’d also probs keep my eyes down and find some way to prevaricate/get out of the conversation as soon as possible! *hates confrontation*
-
just so y’all know, i wasn’t being rhetorical. i really do have social anxiety & it’s so very hard to get up in front of groups/be in public, but i have to for my job. i do hate confrontation, though…maybe that’s why i let my mean boss be mean to me. :( anyone want to talk meds? i’ve finally found a combo that seems to work for me. & thank…[Read more]

In the last couple years I’ve come to think that it’s very likely that I have a social anxiety disorder (or possibly an anxiety disorder in general), but no insurance so I haven’t gotten it checked out. But a part of my job involves being in front of people too and it’s excruciating. I’m also very conflict avoidant and yet picked a career that…[Read more]

i was lucky (?) enough that my crisis moment came in college and i was able to go to a counselor and doctor on campus. the school paid for it. iām very aware how lucky i am to have access to medication and mental health professionals (have insurance through work). the MHPA has made it even easier for me, though, cause it was still hard to make p…[Read more]

me too–although I’ve found that toughing through my social anxiety for work stuff is a lot easier than trying to deal with it in actual social situations.
-
I feel you. Sometimes I wonder if I’m really an introvert or just miserably socially anxious. With work/school stuff there’s a goal to reach, but with people I’m always convinced there’s no point, they’ll just hate me anyway. : /
-
yes. it’s like “doing it for the greater good” almost. in social situations, it’s too easy to let one’s self off the hook (not feeling up to it/uncomfy/not my scene & the hundreds of other reasons we employ).

I know how you feel. I was on meds for mine till I had to stop taking them because they gave me mood swings which sucked. Plus, moving to a new place certainly didn’t help.
-
some of my meds caused that. the doc worked with me to adjust and change to different type (it’s not usually good to just stop taking them). there’s still a chemical imbalance and that’s what the medicine is addressing. (from my totally experiential, not a doctor, point of view)
