The Great Library of Autostraddle 11 years, 10 months agoI just finished reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Franzen and it was so good. Imaginative, a really sweet/funny narrator, and cleverly written and designed. It’s a bittersweet story about fathers and 9/11 and being a child in a big city.

The Great Library of Autostraddle 11 years, 10 months agoDIRT: The Quirks, Habits, and Passions of Keeping House is a collection of essays edited by Mindy Lewis about peoples’ (mostly women’s) relationships with dirt/cleaning. Some of the essays are funny, some are more poignant, and some of them exactly describe my feelings about grime. Also, I think you are guaranteed to find at least one essay that…[Read more]

The Great Library of Autostraddle 11 years, 10 months agoI’ve finished a lot of books this week!
I just finished ‘The Elegance of the Hedgehog’ by Muriel Barbery today. This was among my prizes for coming in second in the Autostraddle summer book club and I lucked out! It was very good. A very solitary concierge in a building full of very rich people works hard to present an image of stupidity and…[Read more]

The Great Library of Autostraddle 11 years, 11 months agoI just finished The Last Man by Mary Shelley. Apocalyptic fiction is great! The book was mostly about how future England would deal with plague. [Side note: Mary Shelley did not spend a lot of time dreaming about what the future would be like. In another 80 years, we’re going to be right back in 19th century England.] I was more interested in how…[Read more]

The Great Library of Autostraddle 11 years, 11 months agoI’ve been busy reading in the past few days! Here’s what I’ve finished recently:
‘Reality Bites Back: The Troubling Truth About Guilty Pleasure TV’ by Jennifer Pozner – It’s a hilariously snarky, but serious academic take down of reality TV and it’s regressive, offensive ideas about women, people of color, and the poor. It’s putting into words…[Read more]

The Great Library of Autostraddle 11 years, 11 months agoIn the last few days I’ve finished up a couple of books I’ve been reading:
‘In the Peanut Gallery with Mystery Science Theater 3000: Essays on Film, Fandom, Technology, and the Culture of Riffing’ eds. Robert Weiner and Shelley Barba – This was fun. I loves me some MST and you could tell the people who wrote these essays do too. The book…[Read more]

hey isn’t that Jonathan Safran Foer? I loved that book! Have you read Everything is Illuminated?
ha yep got the name wrong!. Sorry Jonathan! I just loved the book. I haven’t read Everything is Illuminated yet, but it’s on my list.
Oh my goodness, I’m reading this right now and I’m in love with it! It’s already made me cry a few times. And Everything is Illuminated is super good – I’ve been making all my friends read it, haha. Jonathan Safran Foer is seriously talented.
