Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months ago@internrachel and @julia1, i had just finished Run for Your Life and though it is very interesting, it hadn’t quite reached my favorite book isle (in my head of coarse). Could it have been that it was easy to tell what was going to happen next, most of the time it was.Or the sprinkling of ‘ you got any balls?’ and ‘be a man!’ that made me want to…[Read more]

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoJust finished Full Frontal Feminism by Jessica Valenti (270 pages).
It was good, but I got kind of bored in some parts because it kept telling me statistics that I already knew, and there were also some parts I just plain wasn’t interested in. However, the vast majority of the book was fast paced and interesting, full of really interesting and…[Read more] -

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoI spent the day reading Brokeback Mountain, by Annie Proulx (55 pages) and Candy Girl: A year in the life of an unlikely stripper, by Diablo Cody (212 pages). I found out about Candy Girl from someone else in this group and it was fun to read, so I didn’t put it down until I was finished. I liked the part where she went shopping for the first…[Read more]

Yay I’m so glad I got someone else to read it!
“reminds me of that time about 4 years back when shoes that looked like stripper heels were showing up in stores all over and I secretly kind of wanted a pair.” I KNOW RIGHT-
Hehe, I’m so glad you said that. She mentioned the brand that was comfortable and I was just like “…noted.”

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoI finally picked up the top book on my stack of lesbian books to read and I’m so glad I did. I read the classic lesbian novel Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown (tickled pink that she shares a name with my girlfriend’s bigot of a mother) that runs 246 pages long. The narration flops unexpectedly between past and present tense and there are edi…[Read more]

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months ago@julia1 @internrachel Last night I finished ‘Before I Go To Sleep’ by S J Watson which is seriously creepy. It revolves around Christine who, since an accident years before, has lost her memory – every morning she wakes up with no idea who she is, where she is, who she is lying next to. That man would be Ben, her husband, who explains everything…[Read more]

“Stargate Atlantis: Homecoming” by Jo Graham and Melissa Scott (353 pages).
After ‘Farscape’ was cancelled I had a raw, gaping hole where my heart had been torn out. Upon discovering that both Claudia Black and Ben Browder were going to be on the eighth season of Stargate: SG1, I was like “Shit, I guess I have to watch that…[Read more] -

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoI just finished Rent Girl by Michelle Tea. It’s neither a graphic novel nor not a graphic novel, but it seems like cheating to actually call it 239 pages, so I’ll settle for 120. Rent Girl is Tea’s memoir of her time doing sex work in Boston and the Bay area. She’s frank, straightforward, and crass, and she succeeds in creating a memoir that…[Read more]

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months ago@internrachel @julia1 ive only gotten to page112 of 373 in Run for your Life by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge. Although i’m not very far in this book it has become very interesting. Showing both the good and bad guys point of view. But i’m not really fond of the murderer’s ( bad guy’s obviously) point of view because i think that it pulls…[Read more]

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoSo my first is gonna be a graphic novel… I just read Laurie Sandell’s “The Imposter’s Daughter”. 247 pages, I guess that’s 123.5 pages in book club talk. It’s a memoir about her life mainly focusing on her relationship with her father, a con artist. I really enjoyed the story behind this book, but I expected more from the art. The whole story…[Read more]

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoHello @internrachel and @julia1 and everyone! I’m totally de-lurking to join the book club and I am super excited about it.
I just finished reading The Basic Eight by Daniel Handler (380 pages). I was motivated to read it because I used to love A Series of Unfortunate Events and I still really love his most recent book, Adverbs. (Which, side…[Read more] -

Autostraddle Summer Book Club 2011 12 years, 4 months agoHello, book club! I’m aiming to finish rereading all of the Harry Potter series by July 2nd (when I’m leaving for an Ireland/UK trip that includes being in London for the second part of the Deathly Hallows movie) and I’ve just read Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets again. It’s been awhile since I’ve reread them, and it was so great to…[Read more]

I love reading other people’s reviews/responses to the series ^_^
“It was kind of like meeting up with an old, beloved friend and spending hours reminiscing about old memories and good times gone by, tinged with the kind of sad nostalgia you get when you’re remembering happy times with people you’ve lost.”
This is EXACTLY how I feel, which i why…[Read more]
