Omnivorous Atheist/Skeptic queer geeks 12 years, 5 months agoWooo! Pride Day in Salt Lake City! Didja know Utah has the largest Pride celebration between the Mississippi and California? If it was possible to post pics here I’d show you. PS, this parade is gearing up to be the biggest yet, we may pass up the Mormon’s annual Pioneer Days parade soon

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoI’m reading Mark Twain’s a Yankee in King Arthers Court. I have not read it since I was a youngin and I’m always surprised at how relevant his work is still today. And the old time rhythm of writing is my favourite. I rarely read new books. Unless they are really good or the subject matter is interesting. I don’t like the way people write today. I…[Read more]

Omnivorous Atheist/Skeptic queer geeks 12 years, 5 months agoI was the captain of my high school’s science academic team.
I’m currently trying to find a way to steal my AP Lit textbook.
I think this group is the greatest thing ever.-
Oh no my AP Lit text is an anthology of really important poems/short stories/plays. It’s 2000 pages.

Welcome! I love to see the younger folks in here. Critical thinking is an important skill to have that they don’t teach in schools
-
I disagree. Teaching a person to ask questions and make observations is entirely possible. The problem is that they don’t. Schools are just about teaching kids to pass tests, no questions allowed
-
Yeah, I agree that it can be taught. You can’t force students to take a stance independent from their research (because, sometimes, critical thinking involves considering option B and then realizing option A was right all along), but you can teach them how to be more skeptical of what they read – often by demonstrating the consequences of what…[Read more]

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoUm. I just read Ghost World. Next I’m reading a big thick book of Woody Allen comic strips. I know his personal life is insane, but he’s one of my favorites.
-
I love Ghost World! The movie is wonderful as well but different from the graphic novel.
-
I saw the movie years ago and am just now reading the comics. Even though they’re very different, I love both!
-
-
You don’t have to apologize for liking Woody Allen’s work. Or at least, I would have to apologize right with you. Annie Hall is my favorite movie ever and a bunch of his other films are right behind.
-
My favorite is sometimes Stardust Memories, and other times Annie Hall. I am obsessed with his movies.

Omnivorous Atheist/Skeptic queer geeks 12 years, 5 months agoDamn I love meat. The place where I attend a weekly geeky pub quiz does amazing burgers, it’s been two days and I’m still thinking about the last one I had. Know what else I am thinking about? How under-represented the LGBT community is in the skeptic world. Anybody know of any queer skeptic groups or sites? I love Skepchick and their feminist…[Read more]

I know that there are a few queer bloggers on this list: http://www.blaghag.com/2010/01/large-list-of-awesome-female-atheists.html
And I’m not sure about BlagHag’s sexuality, (since she mentions guys she’s interested in I assume she isn’t a lesbian, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t queer), but she does talk a lot about queer skeptic issues, and…[Read more]

The Great Library of Autostraddle 12 years, 5 months agoI just picked up Inferno by Eileen Myles. Has anyone read it? I’m pretty excited, it has review blurbs on the back from John Waters and Alison Bechdel.
-
I haven’t read it yet, but Autostraddle did it for the first “Reading a F*cking Book Club,” which seems like a pretty good endorsement to me. I’ve been thinking about bumping it up to next on my reading list.
-
Oh jeez, I should have checked there first! I’m really enjoying it so far, I’m excited to read what the article says when I’m finished.
-
-
I read that for the AS book club, it is so good.

So this years Pride turned out to be the biggest parade in Utah history of ALL parades, beating out the big MoMo parade. Awesome
That rules!
